    Viewsonic VG800b power supply noise

This one had a couple of bad caps at C4 and C5, and the component to the left of FL1 had a bad solder joint. I replaced the caps and resoldered the joint and it now works. But when it is connected to power and the monitor is turned off there is a ringing(?) noise that seems to be coming from most likely the area in red, but possibly from the area in yellow. I tried the tube to the ear but could not get any closer than that. Are there any common components that most likely could make a noise? Thanks.

I have found caps and transformers to make a hissing noise or a high pitch ring nose.

I replaced the caps, even the big one, but that did not help. Maybe the transformer?

I just googled around and saw this:
Usually, there are 3 reasons why you're hearing that buzzing sound:
      1. Bad filter caps on the input side
      2. Bad diodes, leaky capacitors or bad optocouplers
      3. Loose parts on the transformer that vibrate because of the transformer's magnetic field.

I will check some more. Thanks.

It's usually the transformer or any filtering coils. Some SMPS Shut Up (tm) gets rid of it. Aka brush some lacquer onto the transformer and coils and it's done.

Try this, using the eraser end of a wooden pencil, stick or any else that's insulated, gently push against the metal frame of the transformer to see if that changes the tone you're hearing.

Thanks for the tips. I did not try the lacquer yet... I did try pushing around on things and resoldering but it did not change, except it might be a little quieter now. I put it back into the case and am letting it test for awhile. It is not very noticeable inside the case... maybe I should put some insulation around the board to further dampen the sound! :-)

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really

These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...

LG 50PB690 power supply terrible noise
              by Biruslapio
I bought this TV with really bad oxidation on the power supply and bottom X boards, it was working but during pickup there was a lot of background noise so I don't know if it had this problem before.

As soon as I could I opened the tv and started working on it, did not test it before since it had back bars on the screen and obvious signs of humidity. The X boards were replaced and the screen now works 100%, but the power supply...

I washed the board and resoldered almost everything on the primary, the oxidation happened because of constant mains AC current flowing,...

DVR recorder Switching power supply Failure
              by sam_sam_sam
When I originally started with my DVR recorder it had 4 individual switching switching power supply’s that were sh*t so I bought a 7 amp 12 volt switching power supply and modified the output plug and put a four output power supply cable to match the input power supply cable inputs

Which worked for over 14 years until a few days ago when the cameras went dark no picture anymore well it turns out now the switching power supply has stopped working altogether now so I have to troubleshoot what has happened to this power supply more later on today what I found

              This...
