Vertical and Diagonal lines on Dell SE198WFPf

    Hi all,
I just got a dell SE198WFPf that was given to me today. Connected the monitor to my computer. Monitor powers up fine for both analog/digital modes. I am getting both vertical and diagonal lines moving from left to right.
I have never seen this on a monitor before. I don't want to tear apart yet,
not sure if monitor is under warranty. Monitor was manufactured in 2008.
Just need some ideas for repair if not under warranty.

Is there nothing but the moving bars on the screen, or do the bars overlay the picture? If there is nothing on the screen but bars I would suspect the refresh rate or the resolution is set incorrectly. If the display (desktop) is present but the bars overlay it, I would suspect one or more bloated caps in teh power supply.

As I frequently say, one picture is worth a thousand words. My signature includes links on how to attach pictures.

Thanks again PlainBill. There is a display and the bars are overlaid on it. I'll check on the power supply.

        Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
        by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
        by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
        by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Samsung Curved monitor C27FG70FQU with garbled vertical lines on startup
        by jackster
I acquired a faulty curved Samsung C27FG70FQU which has the quite common problem of just showing weird vertical lines for a while after a cold boot.

The issue is pretty bad with this one and it takes about 15 minutes before things normalize and a proper image is displayed. Once a proper image is shown it will work 100% until the display is shut down or put in standby for a while and allowed to cool for a bit.

Even though this seems to be a quite common issue I haven't really found any information regarding what the root cause is and how to fix it. There is this video...
