Samsung SyncMaster 226BW (replacing caps with newer versions?)

Hello. Very new to the forum, very new to caps and soldering period.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW that started blinking and I narrowed it down to the bad caps like in this POST. I will have to take it apart again jus to double check exactly which caps are bad, but aside from that I have a question about replacing these caps in general.

My question is can I replace these caps:

I'm using Panasonic part numbers. Any low ESR caps from the other manufacturers on the 'Good caps list' would also work.

* Check the height on these. You might have to use EEU-FC1E821S instead

This cap has a low failure rate, but if I ignore it Toasty will get on my case.
C105 150uF 450v GL 105 °C C640 VENT 20mm D x 42mm H EET-ED2W151BA

with either solid state caps or "Newer Technology" caps that will make it stronger/more powerfull/brigher/longer lasting/?, to get some kind of performance increase in it. I'm not consernered with the price so much at the moment, just with the FACT of weather its possible and what I would use to replace with what kind of increase.

I understand that I couldn't hold you responcible for the info you give me as I'll be doing it myself, but I would hope to only get resonable/factual responces from those who feel they know a great deal about what they are saying.

Leave the 450v cap alone unless it is visibly bulged. Replace all others. Poly caps would be good since the caps are right next to the transformer and heatsinks, and no matter what type of electrolytic you put in there it will still eventually fail.

Thanks for the info. That is very helpful. I have another question stemmed from that. What are poly caps, and how would I find them vs the ones from the list above. Forgive my ignorance, but the best I could make of the list above was to type in the product codes to google and saw what came up there.

Polymer caps are usually not suitable for power supply use unless the power supply was designed for them specifically. Most aren't. With that said, polymer caps may or may not work in your monitor. If you need this monitor fixed, stick to regular electrolytic caps. Otherwise if you want to just experiment with it, you can try polys. No guarantees that it will work, though, and you may end up damaging other components in the monitor.

Thanks for that, that makes sense. Since I'm not a big guru in this field i guess i will stick to the normal suggested. At least get the monitor working again, cause I miss it ;-)

I agree stick to normal Electrolytic Caps, If I get another three years out of this display (I just fixed my 226BW) I will be happy, that's three years longer then most LCDs ;-)
