7.1 channel receiver with 5.1 channel speaker configuration - poor instructions

Today, I was configuring a Marantz SR4001 AV receiver for a client.
The 5.1 channel speakers in the home theatre room had two front and two rear speakers, a centre speaker and a powered subwoofer.

After going through the Simple Setup, I got sound from the front and centre speakers, but not from the rear speakers.
An illustration for a 7.1 channel installation in the manual shows that the speaers at the back of the room speakers should be connected to the Surround Rear terminals. I thought I had to connect the speakers at the back of the room to the Rear Surround terminals.

Later, during a noise test option, I found I had to connect the rear speakers to the Surround (not Surround Rear) terminals. The penny then dropped .

The illustration for a 7.1 channel installation in the manual had confused me (and possibly others) , considering the fact that an illustration for a 5.1 channel installation was not shown. Marantz apparently wanted you to only use a 7.1 channel speaker installation, otherwise you are wasting the capabilities of this AV receiver .

So now we know for a 5.1 channel installation, the rear speakers go to the Surround (not Surround Rear) terminals on a 7.1 channel receiver.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Denon AVR 1908, High pitch noise on Surround back Left channel after long overhaul
    by karatzdi
    Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
    by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
    by spleenharvester
    Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

7 channel NAD receiver,Need help identifying a suitable cap replacement
    by fytonv
My 7 channel NAD receiver has audio quality and volume issues on 2 of the channels. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're at about half the dB level of the left channels, and then they cut out entirely. Powering off and on the receiver fixes it for a bit.

Without much experience to really know for certain, they only apparent issue I can see is with these electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Bulging = bad, correct? I'm looking for replacements but I'm unsure what leeway I have with the temp ratings. Are there any other specifications I need to worry...

Sony str-dn850 home receiver no left channel.
    by erickeri1234
Ok start off by saying I have some tv repair but not much on the receiver end.
Picked up a Sony str-dn850 home receiver when I first plugged it in powered it up it came on and the system check relay clicked and about 3 seconds later it went into protection mode.
I powered it off and on. Comes on no problem.
Hooked up speakers and it started to pop and crackle but the volume was all the way down.. and I was only getting that sound out of the left channel. Right channel had no sound.. but every time I turn the volume up it has a smell crackling sound on ever volume number......
