Help Fixing MTX RT8PT Intermittent Protection Mode

    Hey all,

I've had the MTX Audio RT8PT (powered subwoofer) installed in my '01 Subaru Outback for a little over a year, working flawlessly. Recently, it does this annoying thing where only plays once every 5.5 seconds. Upon inspection, the Thermal Protection light on the sub's integrated amp is illuminating when it is not thumping. The Owner's Manual does not offer any help other than telling me it is in Thermal Protection mode.

So something is causing it to go into protection mode every 5.5 seconds. Very weird that it's so periodic.

The sub +12V Power is connected to the vehicle battery (fused), sub Ground connected to unpainted chassis 1 ft away from where sub is mounted, and remote turn-on is wired from the OEM headunit power antenna signal. Audio signal is coming from OEM headunit>PAC SNI-35 Line Out Converter>RCA Cables plugged into sub.

Something Interesting: If I only unplug the RCA cables from the sub, the speaker stops going into Protection Mode and remains powered on.

    Things I have inpected/tried:
    • Fuse on both amp and battery connection are intact and read nearly 0 Ohms
    • Ground connection to chassis is clean and tight
    • Woofer rated at 4.0 Ohms, measured 3.8 Ohms
    • 12.4V between sub Power and Ground terminals with car off, 14.3V with car running. When in thermal protection mode, voltage does NOT change (MTX Tech support said this is expected behavior)
    • 11.7V between sub Remote-On and Ground terminals with car running (MTX Tech Support said it should work with >10V)
    • All connections tight and clean behind headunit, on battery, and to sub
    • Followed all wires, no shorts or broken insulation
    • Changed OEM headunit Fader, Balance, and Bass settings in many combos, with no luck
    • No loose solder joints or bulging Caps
    • Tested for continuity between RCA jacks and their respective internals (seems perfect)

This is driving me crazy. Especially when sometimes the sub starts working normally for a few minutes then cuts back to its erratic behavior. Any things to check? I am a noob when it comes to tracing circuitboards with a multimeter, but maybe this is a good way to learn.

    Thanks for reading!

measure ac and dc voltage at the rca cable from head unit .

Dell Optiplex 3060 Micro USFF (IPCFL-CG Motherboard) - No LED / Short Circuit

      Hello,

this is my first post at Badcaps and in general i am new to fixing electronics. I am looking forward to learn a bit more about diagnosing and repairing :-)

What I have around is a DELL OPTIPLEX 3060 Micro (USFF), which is not powering on, even not showing any signs of life (No amber / white LED).
I got a original 65W DELL PSU / Power brick (PA-12 / 074VT4) which hopefull should be the correct one. I could get another DELL PSU with the Partnumber 0G6J41 with the same 4.9mm DC Jack connector as the one I already have, but I dont think that would help (maybe...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      MacBook Pro 15" 2010 820-2850 intermittent charging

I would like to get some help on a 820-2850 logic board with intermittent charging problem. Sometimes the battery will charge all the way and sometimes magsafe would be cycling between green and orange.

I have already tried replacing dc-in board, swapping good battery, swapping genuine 85w chargers. None of that helps..

      when it is not intermittent:
      PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R is 12.07v

      when it is intermittent:
When the light is green, PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R is 12.99v
when the light is orange, PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_R is 11.62v

      data line on the battery...

TEAC AG 980 going protection mode
      by Supradin
Hi everyone. I'm new on this things, this is my first amplifier after I start offering repair service almost for free, just for learning purpouse

So I have a amp that is going to protection mode. I saw that if I remove the ribbon cable which sends from main board B+,B- and signal for amplifiers card, is not going to protection mode.

So, from that ribbon cable y disconnect everything but b+ b-, and amp goes again to protection mode. So my guess was something is wrong in the amp board.

I disconnect all transistors and amp is ok.
      After, I connect the...

RX V380 Yamaha with intermittent DC protection fault
      by fafapiti
Well, here is my first post guys. After browsing through the forum, I could not find a similar issue I have with my RXV383.
The last few weeks I noticed a little Pop in the left speaker immediately after turning ON the receiver, but nothing to worry about, I thought.
Last week the first DC protection occurs, which triggered a frenetic research on the net to gather all the information I could get. After 3 restarts the receiver went into lock mode, as expected, but I managed to reset the microprocessor into the service mode as mentioned by different people.
      Amazingly from...
