    RX V380 Yamaha with intermittent DC protection fault

    Well, here is my first post guys. After browsing through the forum, I could not find a similar issue I have with my RXV383.
    The last few weeks I noticed a little Pop in the left speaker immediately after turning ON the receiver, but nothing to worry about, I thought.
    Last week the first DC protection occurs, which triggered a frenetic research on the net to gather all the information I could get. After 3 restarts the receiver went into lock mode, as expected, but I managed to reset the microprocessor into the service mode as mentioned by different people.
    Amazingly from there, the receiver worked well for the rest of the day.

    Unfortunately, the following day the receiver went into DC protect again, and again after few restarts the receiver turned ON and work flawlessly…until the following day.
    I decided to grab my multimeter, disconnect everything from the receiver and put the system in service mode with protection override. I found less than 20mv on right and centre channels but -6VDC on the left channel and going down slowly to reach 16mv a couple of minutes later. Of course, after that, I could restart the receiver with no issue.
    I did the same test the following day, with the multimeter already connected while I was putting the receiver on service mode straight away at the first start. The reading was -25vDC and gone to -18mv 5 minutes later…

    I have the feeling there is a capacitor issue somewhere, maybe, but where to start? If you have any ideas to help me source the issue I will be really pleased. I am electrician with basic knowledge in electronics.

    I would replace all the filtering capacitors for audio output and in coming power supply first I would also replace capacitors that are less than 100uf capacitors

      You likely have a poor solder connection in the left channel, that is the channel with the high Dc offset. Check this DC OFFSET voltage for this channel when the amp is working, is it still -6v~-25v or is it near 0vdc when it's working. If it IS near 0 volts, try tapping around that section using an insulated stick to see if you can get it to act up while monitoring the voltage.

        Hello Everyone,

        I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

        Symptoms:
        • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
        • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.

        Hello Everyone! I have a Yamaha powered speaker DXR15. The problem was the RED LED Fault indicator is steady on when I power the speaker. I did open the module and I don't see any burnt component. I Downloaded the Schematic but I don't know where to start the diagnostic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.         Hi Guys, My first time on the forum.

        I have a Yamaha HTR-5460 Receiver that I have used for a few years. It has recently developed a problem of giving a pop in the speakers and then shutting down. This is intermittent and might happen after an hour or a couple of days of playing.

        I have put it into Diagnostic Mode and it comes up with code “PS PRT 020 B”. According to the service manual “PS PRT” signifies a power supply problem in the mains transformer, 5V or 12V DC supplies. I'm assuming that the “020 B” part of the code would define which one of these...

        Hi all,

        I'm working on a Sherwood R-965 at the moment. It came in with relays clicking constantly and also going into protect mode.
        I've re-soldered a lot of dry joints and replaced quite a few capacitors and now it works, but I still have one problem I haven't solved and would like some opinions.
        The vacuum display is quite intermittent. Sometimes it won't turn on, sometimes it will turn on but the characters, numbers and letters are frozen on, regardless of which buttons are pushed. And sometimes it works flawlessly. If the display doesn't turn on initially, restarting...

        Hi:

        I am trying to rescue this Yamaha amplifier. It turns on, does some relé clics and then switwes off.

        Following up the service manual, I've entered into diagnosis mode (Fm + 8 + switch on during 3 secs to avoid protection). It shows the error shown in one of the pictures. If I am not misunderstood it might be a power supply issue.

        These are the voltages I am getting in CB272 connector (page 33)

        Amplifier just plugged in:

        S10 -> 9.7-10.3V (quite unstable voltage)
        PRY -> -122mV
        E -> -108mV
