Harman Kardon AVR 270 Buzzing inductor

    Hi

I´m trying to find why my HK AVR 270 shuts down with 5 speakers hooked up and increasing volume to about -17dB.

I´ve noticed that a buzz is coming from the unit, not the speakers, and increases when volume is turned up. The humming is annoyingly noticeable. Opened it up and I´m fairly certain that its coming from the inductor CLZ9Z148Z, attached with leads to the primary side CN91 connector.

C983 and C984 as previously been replaced.

How regular is it that inductors fail and would it manifest in this kind of way?

    Cheers,
    B.

I do not see 'inductor CLZ9Z148Z' in your pictures.
Are you using the same 5 speakers but did not have the hum in the past?

Sry, I was'nt clear that it was on the last picture, mounted on the frame.
It is filed as a inductor PFC in the service manual.

      Cheers,

I have tried with to different sets, 3 speakers and 5 speakers. I did notice the annoying hum, could hear it across the room. With 5 it shutdown on -17dB.

When looking at the photo, I notice some gunk in the inductor case, hmm.
        Cheers, B.

I had the same problem, changed both ceramic capacitors (mosfets were OK). It works great, but when I connect it to 5 speakers there is quite a loud hum, I think from the inductor that is screwed to the chassis. The buzzing is gone on headphones. How do I solve this problem?

            Would I be able to swap a 0.27 Ohm Kx2 5W resistor for a 0.22 Ohm Jx2 5W resistor in a Harman/Kardon AVR? Cement type.

Corsair CX750M [Model 75-002019] - burned output toroid inductor
            by momaka
Looks like I may need a little help from the PSU experts (or anyone really! ) I have a Corsair CX750M (Model 75-002019) that I picked up for free about 4 years ago. This is the PSU:

So here’s what’s strange about this one: it appears to work normally (normal output voltages) and any PC is stable with it. However, after a while (typically 10-20 minutes, but time can vary depending on the load), there is a sweetish smell of burned magnet wire insulation emanating from the PSU. Upon opening the PSU after this happened (many times), I was able to confirm...

Harman/Kardon AVR 645 returning to stand-by after a few seconds.
            by PowellSkier
A Harman/Kardon AVR 645 repair has been a hobby of mine for the past several years. My latest attempt involved the purchase of a DOA unit for part swapping and testing. The original AVR would power up then shut down after a few seconds. I completely tore down both units, found a couple of bad components and reassembled one of them. Same issue, no speakers connected. After extensive research I found a repair document from Harman/Kardon that explains the protection circuit in fantastic detail and provides specific test points for each fault (power, DC detection, overload & power) and the voltage...

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
            by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....
