    In car LCD issue

My friend gave me a single DIN LCD screen head unit. It doesn't work and so I want to repair it.

Basically it receives power and switches on because the clock works, the LCD works (blank) and that's about it. The screen won't eject out of the head unit so I have to forcibly pull it out. WHen I press the eject button all the lights come on brightly and then after 10 seconds turn off, same goes for the backlight. I opened it up to have a look and there are no bad caps, cables are securely installed. The ejection motors work if I get an external power source and run them. I can't see anything burnt on the PCB and the cables at the rear are all intact. There is no identification for this in car LCD display so I don't know the model or where it is made (China probably). I don't know where to even start looking for issues so I need some help.... any recommendations guys?

I even tried plugging a video player video line into the "line in" RCA cable in the rear of the unit to see if there is a picture and nothing came up.

Oh there's another cable at the back labelled "BACK", it is in the same loom as the +12V DC power, ACC (battery) power and GND. This cable labelled "BACK" and must mean something. I tried plugging that cable along with the 12V supplies and it didn't do nothing.... head unit still half dead, nothing changed and nothing smoked either (unit was open at the time so I definitely know nothing was burnt). I have no instruction manual either so it's work in the dark for now.

    Thanks.

Done that but no pics... argh! I will do that again on the weekend, and this time with pics. I don't think it's a serious issue though, might be bad caps at worse, but then again they aren't bulging but are of unknown Chinese brand.

In regards to the blue cable labelled "back" that I was unsure of, this is what the company, Eonon told me. Yes, I figured this LCD monitor was made by Eonon, but still unsure of the model.

          You Say:

on the eonon in car monitors there is a blue cable labelled "back", what does that cable do?

          jacklyn Says:

it use to connect the the reversing gear if you have a reverse cam

then when you reverse the car, it will switch to the rear view automatically

Check for voltages on linear regulators. It would be possible that one line from which the motor and LCD power on is dead.
And in the top right it seems you have a 'switch' which is used to detect if the device is closed. Check if it is moving in any way.
Check also those wires on the left-bottom.

Which one is the linear regulator? Sorry I'm new to this.

wait. are linear regulators the MOSFET looking components on that board?

that 5-pin flat pack component is one, probably (can't read the markings). then there's that vertical TO220 thing, which might also be one.
but, besides the transformer there are also two inductors so there may be switching regulators involved.
if that is inconclusive, you can check if the ICs get the correct supply voltages (in case you can find the datasheets, of course).
