Hi i recently got Onkyo rx sr607, the problem was it have no sound even in any mode, then i checked the DSP chip, i found that it getting very hot, so i suspect there some internal short inside, I ordered new chip same part number and i replaced yesterday, But sill have no sound , i checked the voltage rail it is in limit as per schematic 1.2 volt and 3.3 volt. but when i am checking the DSP version on Display its showing D: ??/ ????????? like that .. i will appreciate anyone help on this

Re: Onkyo tx sr 607 -New DSP chip installed
I wonder if the DSP chip might have some internal EEPRROM / flash memory, where it has (or should have) some ID and/or configuration data programmed...Khron's Cave - Electronics - Audio - Teardowns - Mods - Repairs - Projects - Music - Rants - Shenanigans -
Re: Onkyo tx sr 607 -New DSP chip installed
I can't be sure, but i wouldn't be surprised. Either way, i'm pretty sure (detailed) datasheets can't be found for those custom(?) chips.
That being said, if it has a flash chip nearby, that could be part of the problem too.Khron's Cave - Electronics - Audio - Teardowns - Mods - Repairs - Projects - Music - Rants - ShenanigansComment

Re: Onkyo tx sr 607 -New DSP chip installed
Thanks for the update. I may have the same soldering issue than, with my TX-NR609. Most likely, I haven't done a good soldering job. It was my first DSP IC soldering job.Comment

Re: Onkyo tx sr 607 -New DSP chip installed
SRT1, are there any other BGA chips on your board?
To me, seeing that it works after a few hours of idle time makes me think that there is a thermal issue, like a bad solder connection which expands and makes connection after the PC board warms up.

no other bga related to sound processing . my problem was bad soldering of dts chip ..Comment

IIRC, these without a proper network connection ... you played a special CDROM into them to load a new firmware.
My Onkyo TX-SR607 was $400 new back in 2009. HDMI but about a year before networking/wifi was a thing. Worked fine in Home-Theater 24/7/365 (we never used the TV's speakers). I like concerts loud also (DD-5.1 /DTS ones are best). The WRAT-Amp power-thing seemed good. Several years-in ... Audyssey was so accurate, helped me discover why my JBL Center-Channel was weak (it apparently had recently blown the tweeter). Replaced that little driver (from an old matching-series cat-attacked JBL-Tower) and Audyssey could again calibrate (very impressive).
The 607 ran fine until 2015 when the On-Screen-Programming stopped working. I already had my new full set of Polk-Audios 6.1 matched separates all installed and calibrated up, so just ignored it. Had to use the LED display to program a few misc things during the years, but do-able. In all, ran fine for 14 years until the Front-Right channel blew.
I think the secret to 14 years of life is the AV-cooler I always had on it. It normally ran hot, but with a little-cooler, it was just warm.
So, I replaced it with the Denon-x4800h. Plenty of power (even for my full-sized Polks). I don't think I've ever ran it at 100% because the walls and windows start vibrating and you can hear the inside 6.1 speakers in the street. Very nice and also has the cool (any source) Zone-2 for the deck's outdoor speakers. Also has an iPhone App for control.Comment

I have a very strange issue with the BIOS SPI chip of an ASRock B650M PRO RS motherboard.
The SPI chip is an Winbond 25Q256JWEQ model (1V8).
The motherbaord doas not POST - it lits only CPU and DRAM EZ Debug Leds, and stays that way forever.
The Flashback function of the motherbaord is also not working, despite all instructions followed correctly - I'm 100% sure of this.
I have then desoldered the chip, backupped the contents, and tried to earease the chip in order to program stock image, but the chip is locked by status registers SREG2 (TB) and SREG6... -

by chonkyrabbitHi there,
I need some help reverse engineering a BMS chip from a battery for an xx30 thinkpad. The Laptop uses a challenge-response type of system to verify if a battery is genuine:
The laptop writes four bytes to 0x3C and then reads 0x3C. The battery responds with "Lenovo JapanXXXX", with the Xs corresponding to four response bytes. For example "0xDC 0x42 0x5B 0x82" to BMS => "Lenovo Japan0x9F 0x76 0x97 0x2E" from BMS.
What I know so far:- It's an 51F51 BMS chip based on the R2J24020F group. Karosium has already figured out how to dump

Long story short:
- dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
- gave the computer to his son a couple years later
- son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
- too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)
He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8... - Loading...
