    Heathkit AR-1219 manuals anywhere?

Anyone run across manuals for the Heathkit AR-1219 AM/FM integrated tuner-amplifier?

I chanced upon one that seemed to be broken, but actually seems to work fine. Alas it would be neat to have the schematics for it...

I wonder why when tuning it, it's a fairly wide band to tune into a specific station unlike some of my other tuners requires fairly careful tuning to move the variable cap to the right capacitance...

Of course the digital tuners don't have this problem...

If you want to PURCHASE a manual should be plenty of places to find online. If yo want FREE stuff well good luck with that.

Thanks, yeah the AJ1214 will at least give some clues, maybe it's close enough to get alignment hints. I wonder what's "special" about the AR1219 that it didn't turn up as popular as other units, perhaps it's one of the later ones before Heathkit stopped selling kits.

i am surprised some fan has not created an archive like the one for Rado-Shack catalogs!

did they sell many of the R2D2 looking robots btw? that was probably the most expensive kit i ever saw!

In tech college, they used the AR-1214 to teach radio alignment, on a massive CRT display lol.

The IF alignment was tricky because if you "lined up" all IF slugs for max. gain, the IF amps went unstable and oscillated. Instead, you had to stagger the IF, one a bit left, one a bit right which gave more bandwidth and poorer selectivity. Can't believe this knowledge is relevant lol.

It looks like the AR-1214 (Black front) is the same as the AR-1219 which has a silver front

Strange that the black front was released several -years- earlier than the silver one... hmm. I wonder if they're electrically the same, alas, the 1214 data is also sparse...

                  Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
                  by eryjus
                  Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Marantz Model 150 Tuner "NULL" Adjustment..
                  by Mark R
I am not ashamed to say this is my first FM alignment I have ever done. I am well versed in electronics and repair. Been doing it for many years on Pro Audio Live sound equipment. Worked on Power amps EQ's musical gear and Large format Mixing Live consoles Etc. But now I can see this is a whole different world when it comes to tweaking this kind of gear. I do have the proper gear like the SENCORE SG 80 and HP Generators and Scopes Etc.

Look below at Adjustment 12:8. The Null adjustment. I have a Heathkit IM-28 VTVM that was rebuilt and has new Burned in tubes that I used for this...

Panasonic part number in service manuals
                  by Yanleb
In the Panasonic service manuals, both in the board schematics and in the part listing, the part numbers that are given are Panasonic part numbers instead of the actual part numbers.

This is especially annoying for small SMD components like diodes and transistors when you only have 1-3 digits printed on the component body.

For an example, look at the attached PDF.

Do you have a way to cross reference the Panasonic part number with the actual part number?

                  Thanks....

                  Service manuals - going down
                  by tom66
                  Hi all

As you all know I am not as active on Badcaps.net forum as I would otherwise like to be, for a variety of reasons, but mostly related to workload.

The toms-service-manuals.com domain will be expiring next month, and the web hosting will be expiring a few months after that.

I'll likely move to a cheaper webhosting provider (DreamHost is $120 a year, and I basically only host my CV and service manuals now there; the shared server is otherwise underutilised), but I'm wondering if the service manuals site is loved enough to continue it.
