    Marantz 2238b deep cleaning question

I came across this little gem yesterday and need some advice on "cleaning" it. Now when I say cleaning I don't mean that the pots are a bit dusty... no - this thing appears to have spent it's 30 years of life on the edge (or partially in) a swamp and the resident frog population had a 3 pack a day habit!

    It's BAD

I've read that the PC guys will sometimes take the really bad motherboards and literally spray them down with Mean Green cleaner and then do a hot water spray rinse letting them air dry in front of a fan overnight.

This baby looks like it needs to go through the pots & pans cycle of the dishwasher.

Here's the thing... IT WORKS. I was picking up faint FM but I don't really have a good antenna. CD in to the Tape 2, Tape Mon, Aux sounded very nice. Vol pot was a little scratchy but not what I would have expected. Tone was warm and rich.

I'd like to clean it but understand I'm not talking about "restoration". However with the exception of a pretty nice scratch under the headphone jack the case is in good shape and is cleaning up nicely.

Re: Marantz 2238b deep cleaning question

you could strip & wash it,
but the rule is you must remove anything that can trap water inside first.

so remove any transformers, coils in boxes, relays, and the meters just for a start.
the biggest hate i have with items like that is getting the thing back together so the tuning cord is threaded correctly and the needle on the dial actually points to the correct frequency.
give me digital tuners any day!

That's what I was thinking... wet wash is okay if needed provided I can keep from trapping liquid.

Put it to hang and blow hot air with a hair blower....Leave it in a hang dry for a couple of days and continue hot air blowing....don't be too hurry to put it back together....take some time out with it....It'll work...we had one of these in the 70's.....Great audio reproduction if it still works....of course with the correct speakers, too... Good Luck.

Of course it still works, its and old Marantz and they are known for being notoriously hard to kill:

As others said if you do a wet wash make absolutely sure everything is good and dry before putting power to it. I'd also add to make sure you do your final rise with something that wont leave deposits/residue like distilled water or IPA (isopropyl alcohol).

LG OLED C1 Pixel Cleaning Made Picture Worse
            by rumi409
             Hi,

I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...

[Marantz SR5012] Center channel keeps going into ASO/Overcurrent protection.
            by acedogblast
First off I would like to thank this community as it has provided me with great information that has helped me greatly on my repair for this Marantz SR5012 AV receiver. I am creating this new thread as the other 2 that I have created here has had their original question/problem solved and I plan that this is the final thread on my repair. Please note that this is my first time repairing audio amplifiers so I may not be aware of common issues and things to know.

Lets start at what I have done so far. Random speaker popping on all channels is fixed by replacing the 2 large filter...

Marantz Model 150 Tuner "NULL" Adjustment..
            by Mark R
I am not ashamed to say this is my first FM alignment I have ever done. I am well versed in electronics and repair. Been doing it for many years on Pro Audio Live sound equipment. Worked on Power amps EQ's musical gear and Large format Mixing Live consoles Etc. But now I can see this is a whole different world when it comes to tweaking this kind of gear. I do have the proper gear like the SENCORE SG 80 and HP Generators and Scopes Etc.

Look below at Adjustment 12:8. The Null adjustment. I have a Heathkit IM-28 VTVM that was rebuilt and has new Burned in tubes that I used for this...

Marantz SR5007 popping on volume change and mute in Direct Mode
            by BigOof
            Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

            marantz sr6012 no sound
            by oshimapt
            hello guys,

first of all i'm not a qualified repair guy, i am a diy guy and as years pass by i have some experience on repairing eletronics, and i'm hoping someone can share their experience.

i have a marantz sr6012, some times it turns on and works normal, but after a while the sound cuts off or it starts getting distorted and then cuts off.

when this happens there is no audio no matter the source used, and the OSD shows unknow audio signal from the source.

i was reading very carefuly the service manual and it is all pointing for...
