Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working
But I do appreciate and thank you for spending your time with me and I appreciate sharing your knowledge. What I'm going to do with it is take the HDMI board out because it works good. Replace the caps on it for prevention of issues and heatsink the DSP then take my bosses unit and just install it for him for free since he has an Integra with the same HDMI board that's faulty and the rest of the unit I'll throw away.

Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working
Even though I got to the ic I don't feel like going any further with this project because I agree it's not for a beginner. I repair TV's all the time, but not at board level unless it's capacitors and did one ic once with a heat gun and a flux pen. TVs are a little different in my opinion because you have your common faults you usually know what it could be because of understanding what each board does and how it works etc. I guess I was kinda hoping this was like a common fault kinda like the notorious HDMI board issues that plague these. But this issue could be a combination of things lots of components could of killed each other etcLeave a comment:

Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working
Pictures of the top view of the internal of the unit?
You may have to do that since there is no PCB layout to see if the signal path can be probed from the top side of the board.
It is not going to be easy, but that is how you learn to figure out the way to test the circuit.
I paid my due spent hours, days, months on some complicate stuff before so for me to transfer you the 40 years of knowledge to the beginner just from the pictures and typing without the unit in front of me is almost impossible.
When you spend lots of times on your own and finally figure it out how to solve the problems at hand on your own, you will remember that for the rest of your life.
You can some time spends hours just to figure out how the signal gets from point A to point B from 50 pages for the schematic, and then have to find where the parts are at on the actual board.
So if you think you will be spending a couple hours figure this thing out, you can forget that.
And when you get to the test [ont you still need to learn how to use the mACV meter as the tool to test the audio signal since you do not have the scope or the Audio tracer.Last edited by budm; 09-01-2016, 09:58 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working
I'm assuming I have to strip it down transformer has to come out heatsink all that since its all screwed to the bottom. Then it has to be built on a bench with no chassis to test. It's the only way I don't see any other way.Leave a comment:

If it is going to be easy for beginner then every body can do it, but it is not for beginner.Leave a comment:

I'm looking at those pages I can't see any relation. The first page shows how the unit comes apart and the others is a block diagram and a schematic.Leave a comment:

Is this ic on the bottom? Do I have to strip this thing down? If so how would I test it? Build it on my carpet with no chassis?Leave a comment:

So what are you saying? I'm not understanding. I'm looking at the manual at the pages you told me.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo HT-R690 AV Receiver Front Right Channel Not Working
Ok found it. It's called BCAF 0621 no wonder I couldn't find it. I'm happy I looked for the numbers instead. So I'm assuming this IC is in the bottom correct? If so how is it possible to probe it playing audio with the whole unit apart and all boards disconnected?Leave a comment:

by CdDvdFlashFor this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

by MegaZACSurprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.
Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.
There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...-

Hi friends
I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board... -
So I have this home cinema with only the subwoofer and the central speaker working. The unit boots up with blue light, so no protection mode nor short detected. All fonctions are available (radio, cd, aux etc...).
I have the schematic of it but no idea what to look at and how. Seems that the sub and center speaker are both connected to the same relay but I don't get how the 3 other have failed as they are all powered from the same supply? How can I diagnose it safely?-

by redbaron1007I picked up an Onkyo HT-R510 that when I plug it in and press the power button will turn on and then a couple of seconds later turn itself off. When it turns on you can hear the relay click and then immediately click again and shut the power to the system off. I spent about 5 hours today trying to troubleshoot it and I did make some progress that may not actually tell me anything. It's still not really working and I'm not quite sure where to go next.
Here's everything I've done so far.
The first thing I did was open it up and check for any burn marks exploded parts...-
