TEAC v8060 receiver. Volume control not working at all

I picked up this receiver for cheap at an estate sale (about $20). I was under the impression it was in working order, but after plugging it in, I notice that all the buttons seem to respond except the volume The LED on the dial lights up, and the remote will also turn the volume, but there is no indication of volume control on the display , and output appears silent. The only other problem I'm noticing so far, is that the video3 button looks like it was forced in at some time , and is also not functioning.

I know that I've sort of fixed a similar problem on a small JVC unit. It was a pain, and basically had to take apart the volume pot and clean up , etc. Would it be a good idea to try to fix this?

Seems like a decent amp, so why not? Take it apart and post some pictures. Maybe it's only bad solder joints.

What is the output amplifier Class?

            Does the headphone output work?

If you apply an audio signal to the VIDEO3 input, do you get any output?

Then I would repair the stereo.

Question? Did you check that both left and right channels have no volume? You most likely did or you should have heard a faint volume with the balance set in the middle position. So if it is both channels that should point you in a direction before L & R channels. Looks like IC24 is common to both or it might just be the master volume control as it also goes to the balance between both channels

Didn't see my replies to this yet, so had since taken it apart.

I may be wrong, but I'm assuming the actual volume control piece would likely be the failure point, as the volume control literally doesn't respond at all (no numbers on display, nothing).

I was dismayed to see this volume control is not common. I can post pictures, but basically it appears to be a sealed cylinder with MANY solder joints. The shaft exits one side, and I was able to bend up tabs and remove the front, but it appears the actual control mechanism is not serviceable. Perhaps it's available for replacement, but it may be an expensive part.

The service manual (page 14) depicts VR91 as four ganged potentiometers, a DC motor, and an LED. It should be fairly easy to meter its pins. That said, unless the pots are stuck at the bottom end of their travel, then I wouldn't think that this part would be the culprit.

Question could not corrosion from sitting around in a damp place cause a failure? I don't know how old the receiver is? If it is old and was sitting around in a garage and the potentiometers are the open type and exposed to air perhaps that could cause a failure?
