    Re: Rotel RA-940BX distorted sound

The last schematic doesn't show the AC3 & AC4 connections. I haven't looked at the manual yet, it's taking a while to DL for some reason.

This part of the manual schematic shows that AC3 is connected to AC4 via power switch, which has nothing to do with voltage selection. For voltage selection AC4 should be connected to the appropriate transformer primary tap for your line voltage.

hi guys, the smoothing caps are fine i have replaced them alread no effect. ac3 is mains cable live and ac4 is connected to ac3 via power switch and capacitor. ac4 is live mains IN 240v on transformer

When you turn on the amp. do you hear the relay (RY601) click after a few seconds?
Did you try switching the record/listen and tone switches back and forth, they could be dirty (oxidized) I find a lot of these older amps need the switches cleaned.

hi I did try switching back and forth a lot and air blew the switches. Could this explain the 0v at the bias adjust?

              Re: Rotel RA-940BX distorted sound

The bias test points are T1 to T3 and T2 to T4, there should be about 12 milli volts aprox.
If you check accross the speaker terminals it should be 0 volts. adjusting vr601(L) or vr602(R) should vary the voltage accross the speaker terminals. it should go a bit positive one way and then a bit negative the other, setting it to 0 volts is where it should be
The bias adjust should increase or decrease the voltage acrosss accross tp1 & tp(vr603) tp2 & tp(vr604)

              Does the relay click?
and blowing air into the switches does nothing, you need a control cleaner/deoxidizer (DO NOT USE WD40!)

I get 0v across the test terminal! I will have to invest in this detox spray. If I could test the switch via speakers or something would be good to confirm fault. yes the relay does click

test the switch with the meter set to ohms.

your in the u.k. - go to maplins for a can of contact-cleaner / switch-cleaner.

NEVER spray WD40 near electronics btw - it will slowly rip the layers of the board apart by getting between the tracks and the glue holding them down!!!

What do YOU consider a test terminal??? are you talking about the Speaker TERMINALS or are you talking about the BIAS TEST POINTS
0 volts accross the SPEAKER TERMINALS is Correct.

I will give maplins a shot later hopefully and yes I do mean bias adjust test points 1-4

                          by LEECH666
                          Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

Yamaha MOX8 boot freeze and distorted sound
                          by maleksa
My Yamaha MOX8 synthesizer recently developed two issues.

Firstly, after booting up, it operates as normal. However, after about 5 minutes, the sound starts to get distorted (broken up screeching sound) almost like putting it through a guitar distortion pedal. After a while, the distorted sounds will go away for a while and comes back. At times, the synthesizer will also freeze I need to power off and on again.

Secondly, when powering off and on again, there will be times where the synthesizer will freeze during the boot sequence (freezes at the MOX8 Opening Screen),...

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                          by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

HP 8470p - distorted sound and noise when playing audio
                          by televizora
                          Hello.
I have an issue with HP 8470p - rather strange one.
I have a noise and sound distortions on both internal speakers and external speakers, when I plug such into the 3.5mm audio jack.
Seems like the noise is present especially when I play audio, where there are parts/sections where the volume of the actual recorded sound is low.
Interestingly, when I play the windows sound test, everything seems to be almost okay. The sound/distortions are similar to when you have interference from some other piece of equipment nearby or when you have an audio receiver with bad amplifier...

Marian Trace Alpha sound card repair help
                          by Christos Tsiligiannis
                          Hello to the forum.

My name is Christos, I am new to the forum here and i am posting from Greece.

So i have this old German sound card from Marian, called Trace Alpha. To be exact i have 2 of them and i use them professionally for my small FM radio station here. The first one works like a charm, but the second one does not work at all.

To be more specific in the same exact pc with windows 7 (i even tried 32bit) the one works while the other doesn't.

So i tried asking for a schematic from the company and they would not give me one. Instead they...
