Sony STR-DB940 hum/bleed in, in SUB channel only

Hello, been struggling with this receiver.

It did some relay clicking some months ago (back channel lost for seconds), but clicking stopped. After that working fine.
I purchased new speakers (Boston Acoustics), and for the first time used the SUB PRE OUT for an active sub. Worked fine. For one week.

In the middle of a tv program suddenly came loud, audible hum from the sub woofer. As the sub was new, I thought I had a faulty unit.
But after some troubleshooting, I narrowed the problem down to the old receiver. Please correct me if Im wrong, from the following symptoms:

    * Loud audible hum and little bleed in from the selected channel on tv

    * Rest of the receiver and sound from the subwoofer working fine (also sub channel)!

    * Most audible when active sub is turned all the way up

    * Still audible when volume on receiver is turned all the way down

    * Moving sub and receiver to a different room/outlet: Hum still audible

    * Different RCA cable: hum still audible

    * Removing all input cables from receiver/shutting tv, blu-ray off: hum still audible

    * Pulling cable from tv / shutting of tv: makes a difference in hum.

    * Changing RCA from SUB PRE OUT to CENTER/FRONT PRE OUT on the receiver clearly ELIMINATES HUM

    * Selecting "Sub woofer: NO" in setup (a relay clicking) ELIMINATES HUM

    Heres some more intensive testing:

    * Sources with DD-logo (Dolby) (eg. specific channel on tv) CLEARLY has more hum than channels with no DD logo

    * Shifting source on front on receiver makes kind of an echo in the hum, clearly audible in the sub woofer

I tried open up the unit, but couldn't see any visible sign of bad caps or bad solders.
I have fair solder capabilities, but no testing gear besides a battery driven hand multimeter.

Repair manual for the unit HERE.

The unit is worth much less than what repairs would cost in my country, and I dont want to toss an otherwise perfectly working unit.

Really hopefull that anyone in here have the knowledge to point directions of something to exchange.. Thanks a lot, guys.

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
    by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
    by spleenharvester
    Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

7 channel NAD receiver,Need help identifying a suitable cap replacement
    by fytonv
My 7 channel NAD receiver has audio quality and volume issues on 2 of the channels. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're at about half the dB level of the left channels, and then they cut out entirely. Powering off and on the receiver fixes it for a bit.

Without much experience to really know for certain, they only apparent issue I can see is with these electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Bulging = bad, correct? I'm looking for replacements but I'm unsure what leeway I have with the temp ratings. Are there any other specifications I need to worry...

[Marantz SR5012] Center channel keeps going into ASO/Overcurrent protection.
    by acedogblast
First off I would like to thank this community as it has provided me with great information that has helped me greatly on my repair for this Marantz SR5012 AV receiver. I am creating this new thread as the other 2 that I have created here has had their original question/problem solved and I plan that this is the final thread on my repair. Please note that this is my first time repairing audio amplifiers so I may not be aware of common issues and things to know.

Lets start at what I have done so far. Random speaker popping on all channels is fixed by replacing the 2 large filter...

Sony str-dn850 home receiver no left channel.
    by erickeri1234
Ok start off by saying I have some tv repair but not much on the receiver end.
Picked up a Sony str-dn850 home receiver when I first plugged it in powered it up it came on and the system check relay clicked and about 3 seconds later it went into protection mode.
I powered it off and on. Comes on no problem.
Hooked up speakers and it started to pop and crackle but the volume was all the way down.. and I was only getting that sound out of the left channel. Right channel had no sound.. but every time I turn the volume up it has a smell crackling sound on ever volume number......
