    AVR-2802 no audio, chip questions

I do some hobby repairs mainly of my own junk, and I don't know much programming level repair/mods.

I got the AVR-2802 over the weekend, sold as working of course, and it worked for 1 night, using EXT. IN 5.1CH jacks, then after power down, the audio never came back. I've reset it, and get nothing on EXT IN or PHONO, despite having everything set right, hooked up right. I can hear lots of relays work tho.

I just want it for 5.1CH analog inputs , for PC surround sound. I'm not worried about the video or most of the digital stuff for now.

So far I've traced the audio into the latch and volume controller IC's, but it doesn't get out of the volume controller's.

Looking at the timing in the datasheets for the volume controllers, I can read the volume level setting for any volume I set, with an oscilloscope. But the spacing of the signal, IDK if it's right. Sometimes there's big gaps in the clock in one place, other times there's a gap in the clock elsewhere. Gap's of a few cycles.

When I line up the CLK and DATA, I see the dB level codes in the 1st 16bits. But then bit 24 should be a "0" bit as they write in the pdf, but on the scope it keeps being high.

But if I'm reading the data write, the "Volume select data" A/B/C (in TC9482), all get set low, so none of the audio gets passed. I have no idea why it can't or won't turn on the outputs. IDK if some other condition is blocking it.

I also see the clock stay high for a few times longer than it normally does. IDK if that's typical, or a problem with the MCU.

The MCU is the TMP88CU74F, besides some 100R resistors and connectors, the volume data comes direct from it. And there's no ROM chip on that PCB, so any program and memory is probably internal.

Any idea's what to do next to see if the MCU really works ? Otherwise I'll just have to bypass the volume control from the MCU, with something I'd try to write for ardinuo.

Right now I took PCB's out, to find the MCU.

Picture 41 show the clock in yellow, GRN is data, blue is strobe. You can see the clock staying high for longer than it does other times, IDK if that's normal or a sign the chip has a problem. Maybe it's internal ROM is dying, and the A/B/C data is lost ???

For now, since the volume IC is just a voltage divider for the signal, I'll just make some dividers and wire them in place of the 2 volume chips, and see if that works. Or rather than remove the chips, cut some traces to bypass the chips. See if that works, I never tried applying a signal past those chips yet.

There is a giant thread regarding no sound and it is the eeprom which fails and needs to be replaced and programmed.

May or may not be your problem worth a look maybe.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Acer e15-e5-576g-5762 bricked. Bios chip won't interface in AsProgrammer.
      by inck243
Thanks for any help. The board version is DAZAARMB6E0 REV: E. The bios chip is winbond 25Q64JVSIQ1736. W25Q64JV is not available in AsProgrammer -- only BV CV FV or FW_1.8c. The chip won't interface with asProgrammer and a CH341A. When I have this chip on the board, the laptop will not post but when I plug it in to power, the blue LED lights up, also the orange when the battery is connected. When I push the power on button, keyboard backlight turns on and the fan starts briefely then turns off. But I can't do anything to program this bios chip so I bought another one.

      The BIOS...

Lenovo laptop does not turn on, what does this number mean in a BIOS chip?
      by thxd43
Hello, first of all, excuse me, I am using the translator, English is not my native language.

      I have a Lenovo ideapad 330S - 14IKB laptop.

The tablet did not recognize me when I connected it, so I checked the device manager and I realized that there were many with the exclamation mark, so one by one I began to update their drivers until the sign disappeared of admiration, I even updated the BIOS, and the laptop rebooted normally and worked, so far so good, but the tablet still did not recognize me, I read on the internet that it could be due to a...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
      by double_DD
      Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Elitebook 840 G5 Bios Chip Soldering Question
      by Azurain
      Hi everyone,

I have an HP Elitebook 840 G5 that I am trying to get working again. I've removed the front bios chip (the 32mb one) and have run it through HP unlocker already. I've uploaded and verified the new bin, but am now experiencing an issue that has led me to believe I've been soldering the chip back to the motherboard incorrectly.

Essentially, after re-soldering the chip back into its place and reassembling the laptop, the charging light immediately flashes orange and white and then shifts to a solid white. The capslock and numlock lights blink seven times...
