I have an AsRock Taichi 7900xtx, and the minimum fan speed is way too high at 1000rpm, and thats with it's Quiet BIOS switch on, and me setting the fan profile as low as it goes, while on.
Now 1 thing I could do is just make some circuit to put in between the fan the the GPU, and leave the fan on all the time, but anytime the GPU is sending the PWM for min speed, I'll just send something lower and quieter.
But does anyone know what how AsRock usually sends the PWM to the fans on GPUs and mobo's? Is it from the MCU that's often near the 12V inputs and fan jack ? Or is...

Where do all the traces come from into it ? Is it some data switch, or logic IC, near MCU's or some DC-DC controller near some inductor and voltage rail ?

AVR-2802 no audio, chip questions
I do some hobby repairs mainly of my own junk, and I don't know much programming level repair/mods.
I got the AVR-2802 over the weekend, sold as working of course, and it worked for 1 night, using EXT. IN 5.1CH jacks, then after power down, the audio never came back. I've reset it, and get nothing on EXT IN or PHONO, despite having everything set right, hooked up right. I can hear lots of relays work tho.
I just want it for 5.1CH analog inputs , for PC surround sound. I'm not worried about the video or most of the digital stuff for now.
So far I've traced...Last edited by MasterCap; 01-15-2024, 11:56 PM.

Re: 2080ti Founder edition trying to identify components
Is it just a mosfet maybe ? If it was, 4 pins would usually be grounded, 3 for power, and 1 gate. IDK if they'd have the fet on the bottom tho with the inductor topside
Maybe its the controller for 1.8V rail. Low voltage controller chips are all pretty similar, probably pretty interchangeable, provided they were wired up the same.

What's the minimum hot air you need to remove vram/core ?
I bricked a 6700xt last year, and worked on it some. But I either broke some solderballs loose, or cooked the core or vram.
I tried to remove the core, then just a vram chip, and I couldn't do it, with my crappy little 858D hotair station.
So what do people on here use to remove vram, which shouldn't be too hard, or the core ?
What about 2 crappy hotair stations? 1 on 1 side, 1 on the other side ? What about a $75 hotplate from amazon underneath the PCB to help hotair?
What do people on a budget, use on here ? Besides a frying...

Re: BOSE Acoustimass 300 Bass Module
So what does it do when plugged in and turned on, any voltages at all? Does it have STBY power, like a 5V rail, and some LED is powered from that ? It could be from a mini-SMPS, or just a linear regulator.
I'd see if there's Stby power, and then I'd look up the controller chip datasheets, and see if they get power, and if they have enable and/or power-good pins, see what they are doing.
Now I have an isolation transformer, and a series light bulb, so that even if I did something bad like short something with my DMM probe,...Last edited by MasterCap; 02-20-2023, 06:35 PM.

Re: I broke my 6700xt after doing a copper shim mod
Here's what GPUz see's in windows, running off the iGPU tho, and some info Linux gives
For now I don't have solder balls, or a hotair gun I trust, or any experience with BGA soldering.
I'd need some practice before I'd try removing vram 1 at a time and see if that helps. I'm praying the memory controller is still alive. I'd need better gear before I'd trying re-balling the core.
I want to know how they check these at the factory, what I2C or JTAG tests do they run. I have no where near...

Re: Gigabyte 1080 G1 - no video, visible in device manager
On my 6700xt with no video, but also detected as secondary with the iGPU, in GPUz it lists most stuff, but it's blank for things like the texture fill rate, and the clocks
HWinfo didn't seem to list it, or maybe just 1 line, on senors anyways.
Afterburner gave some stuff, I'll have to check tomorrow, maybe that was CPU stuff.
I ran dmgg ramtest script, and it's like it finishes, but it doesn't report any result.....so maybe it's my vram ? 3 days ago it said there was no vram proble...Last edited by MasterCap; 08-10-2022, 10:35 PM.

Re: I broke my 6700xt after doing a copper shim mod
Ok the other day in Linux, using just the 6700xt, I was able to run dmgg.py, and it reported no errors for 255MB test.
Then I was able for the 1st time in ages to install the drivers in Linux, then in windows. And I was playing an older 3D game with the FPS locked to 60fps, then I unlocked it, and my temps got really really high, like 115C hot-spot after a minute.
I didn't really believe it because I had the fans set to max. Then later I tried running BF1 and it was 70C in the menu, and then as soon as...

How much noise is allowed on mobo/CPU/GPU voltage rails ?
I can't remember the spec's for ATX power supply rails, but those are far higher voltages than say the 0.9V or 1.35V on a GPU.
So where can I find some figures on the ripple voltages for PC parts like CPU and GPU cores and ram ? There must be lots of documents on this stuff

Re: GeForce GTX 1060 short on PCIe 12V
I would not think a 1060 would use 12v from the pci-e slot, on any large phase, as in the large ones around the main chip.
I think 12v-mobo is used a lot for 5V to the video outputs, maybe the fan, maybe for some aux rails
I'd look at the similar schematics if I knew where they were
Start at the 6pin connector, and see what big caps are connected to it, and the upstream side of the big power mosfets. Do the same for the mobo connectors.
That's what I would do anyways. I just fixed another...Last edited by MasterCap; 08-09-2022, 10:22 PM.

Re: Solving the mystery of a 1050 ti
Any luck with that coil/inductor ? I'd guess it's not connected to the 3v3 or 12v from the mobo, if the other voltages are working. But then there's a few 3v3 and 12v fingers. So check all them with continuity mode.
If it's for a buck converter, see what cap's around it are connected to it, that would be the output. And some chip or mosfet nearby, should also have a pin direct to it. Find the label of any chips right around it, you might be lucky.

Re: Gigabyte R9 390 8GB - identify 2 burnt chips?
I would guess, the 5 pin chips is an AND gate, of the 74 series logic chips. Pin 5 and 1 end of C101 will probably be directly on 3v3 rail, and pin 2 or 3 is probably gnd. Pin 4 is probably pulled up to 3v3.
The 8pin was probably some PWM or fan controller type chip. The bunch of 1AM chips are 2n3904, they might be making a 1/2 bridge driver for the fan ??
Ok the C23 chip is probably this IC, for the PWM of the fan no doubt.

Re: AMD Radeon RX 570 MSI Armor - not detected, fault finding
That pic looks a lot like the circuit I was mapping lately, on my 6700xt, I could see on mine that it was using a bunch of rails, tied to the 1v8 buck regulator enable pin, but it appears to be a disable, not enable. So maybe it part of the PCIe reset, or HPD, or whatever all that is.
It used a few sot323-6, marked MAz or MAN, and I think they are dual 3904, but I'm very very new to GPU circuits. But it makes sense in LTspice, but god knows what other traces I'm missing.
I've DLed a few...Last edited by MasterCap; 08-06-2022, 01:42 AM.

Re: I broke my 6700xt after doing a copper shim mod
Yeah and making a sandwich with them is pointless too, but in some places I put pads under them, as an electrical insulator.
But great news, the GPU is still alive, after some set backs, I saw video from it tonight.
2-3 days ago when I was testing it, without it on the heatsink (but with a little 1 and fan), the voltages were not cutting out after 20-30s. but I still had no video.
I had cleaned the PCB much better again by then, and used lots of IPA before drying it. So IDK what really changed,...Last edited by MasterCap; 08-06-2022, 01:28 AM.

Re: Graphics card Schematics and Boardviews
Bonjour, I'm looking for any rx 6700xt series, mine is a Gigabyte, which is a lot like the AMD ref model.
Really anything of the rx5000-6000 series would help, I have worked out some of the PCB, but I'm getting into trouble, soldering 0402 parts is harder than I expected. So far I knocked off 2 resistor's, I worked out what they should be.
I should practice 0402 soldering on something, besides my GPU that probably has broken solder joints under the vram or core.

Re: MSI RX6900XT - i fcked up - shorted TOUT with BOOT on
I soldered a wire onto the bottom side PCB, to get at the enable pin of a DRMOS, and now the resistance of the pin reads way more, even with the wire removed again. I don't get how I damaged anything.
I barely touch these when powered, I'd fry too much stuff.
