New - Harman Kardon AVR1700 - No Audio

I decided I technically hijacked another thread even though it was solved, so I am moving here because its not exactly the same issue.

I'm trying to simplify from Outlaw audio and carver amps to a HK AVR 1700. AVR 1700 powers on great and turns on out of standby fine and all buttons function correctly. Factory reset done on it and have tested all inputs with no sound output.

On the power supply I am not getting the +45/-45v that powers the output board.

I feel comfortable with a meter and am not asking anyone to teach me anything so please just help me figure out what to check and if I don't know how I will learn on my own.

I have checked voltage on the IC's because that seemed to be the issue with the last guy. With receiver on - not in standby.

    IC91
    (FROM PIN 8 GRD TO)
    PIN 1 = 20vdc
    PIN 2 = 20.4
    PIN 3 = 2
    PIN 4 = 0
    PIN 5 = Drain
    PIN 6 = Drain
    PIN 7 = 0
    PIN 8 = GRD

    IC92
    (FROM PIN 8 GRD TO)
    PIN 1 = 6.88vdc
    PIN 2 = 1.96
    PIN 3 = 0
    PIN 4 = Drain
    PIN 5 = Drain
    PIN 6 = 0
    PIN 7 = 18.4
    PIN 8 = GRD

    IC93
    (FROM PIN 8 GRD TO)
    PIN 1 = 0vdc
PIN 2 = 5.8 *according to data sheet this is out of range.
    PIN 3 = 0
    PIN 4 = 50.1
    PIN 5 = 50.1
    PIN 6 = 1.8
    PIN 7 = 21.9
    PIN 8 = GRD

My focus has been on IC3 because I think pin 6 "out" should be higher than .18v but I really have no idea.

    AVR 1700 Service manual

    Thanks
    Brigham

Update- I have ordered one of those cheap Ebay ESR Cap testers because Im interested in checking C906.

Re: New - Harman Kardon AVR1700 - No Audio

OK i received ESR tester and de-soldered c906 and when I used the solder sucker not only did it take the solder it also sucked up the mini smd cap. When I retrieved the capacitor form the solder sucker it did not have solder on on end of it. I tried to re solder the missing end but it would not stick.

I feel like when I was trying to test it in circuit I recall having to apply a little extra pressure to get any sort of reading so I'm wondering if it had already separated on that side before I even touched it. But it could have also been to much heat when removing it. Anyway I was not able to test it.

The service manual says 50V 222k and I believe that translates to 2200pf

This is the one I think I should order but I would really like a pro to confirm.

Since I'm posting links here is a working link to service manual.

    and data sheet on IC93

I hope to order more parts with this but I'm not sure where else to look. The capacitor is only .06 cents but shipping is $5 so I hope you guys can pick a few more items off of the service manual the may be the culprit and I will ad them to the order.

Or I am happy to try and test any thing you may want more info on.

Thanks in advance. Please please take a look if you think you may have an idea.

You need to measure the dimensions of the device in inches, then take away the zero. For example 0.12" x 0.06" gives you a 1206 device. (The biggest number usually comes first.) Common sizes: 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 1812. It's likely to be 0603, 0805 or 1206 on a power supply board.

OK thanks Tom. With calipers it is .065x.110 so rounding to the closest combination it is a 1206.
My new choice is this one:
        http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...5IjKkULBX9Q%3d
And since I'm going to go through all this to get up and running I picked one that is .38 cents instead on .06 . I think its more because it is +/-5% Tol.

Have not ordered - hoping to add more to the order to save on any future shipping cost.

        Thanks

It'll be cheaper to buy it from Digikey at only $2 or $3 for shipping.

It's easier to work with this then the whole manual:

              Thanks tibimakai.

Ordered from digikey yesterday. Hope to get it installed as soon as it comes in and report back.

Re: New - Harman Kardon AVR1700 - No Audio

Received cap today and soldered it in and powered up and tested the +45/-45 v section and I was getting +51/-51 v so I went ahead and put it all back together and it works great! I was initially worried when I had 2 speakers hooked up and it seemed like the sound was fading in and out but the receiver was in virtual surround mode and once I put it in 2 channel all was well. Currently all hooked up in 5.1 and networked so I can use my phone to control it since I don't have the remote. Also trying to use Bravia link and it works most of the time for volume but only some of the time for turning receiver on out of standby.

This has definitely inspired me to pull my broken Samsung plasma out and recap the PS.

Thanks for your help +1 for your signature.

Re: New - Harman Kardon AVR1700 - No Audio

The thread that drew me here ended with discussion of adding a fan and the new HK AVR 1710 has a fan so I would consider adding a fan if these are prone to failure from heat.
I wouldn't know where to tap in to DC circuit do add a fan but I know I could easily run off of 120vac from the PS.
                  http://www.ebay.com/itm/120VAC-3-Fan...item2580262bac

I could use a DC relay to turn on fan. I would worry about additional load on the PS if I tried to run a DC fan from it.

Have been listening to music all day on my new ARV 1700 - Love it!

Re: New - Harman Kardon AVR1700 - No Audio

I'm using laptop coolers with adjustable speed to cool my receivers (you can adjust the noise level), laptop coolers with adjustable speed(I have picked up one from Target for $14). I hooked up the USB connector to my TV and when the TV turns on, it will turn on the fan and receiver.
