^ You do realize this is a 7-year old thread that's been dead with no purpose?? :|
Granted it was revived by a spammer... but still.

The only problem with vehicular speakers, is that they're 4 ohms and the like and I think I caused the death of a Soundesign amp, albeit it was cheap, anyways!

    Lower ohms=more amperes!

I suspect I accidentally killed a Soundesign single-speaker system with a car speaker in a box.

I very recently got 2 Polk VT60 speakers and put them in a box! 2 boxes with 1 each in them. Heard that most of the wood was repurposed from an armoire!

And I don't regret that! (Unlike 6"x9"s or the like!)

It's now known as the "speakers made for ceilings in a box project", as they are rated at 8 ohms, the most common rating for home receivers.

The 'engineering' part was also sarcasm. Dr Dre lent his name to a brand for money: that's his contribution, he sold out to punt a product.

You should recalibrate your sarcasm detector, as my last post was set to 'blatant'.

Nah. My hearing isn't all that great anymore, but I can still hear the difference between crappy and good headphones. I think goontron pretty much answered it with the title - people are just ignorant (if sheep sounds too harsh ).

Any post with Justin Beiber mentioned should never be considered seriously

Not doubting you at all, but do you have any links to the articles containing this research? I'm just interested in reading it since I am probably with that 1%-insensitive majority. The headphone amp I build out of that TV amplifier states 0.3% typical distortion, but with a PC that properly drives it, I don't really hear any distortion. Hissing - yes.

I also built a simple class A headphone amp a few weeks ago out of general purpose transistors and it sounded quite fine IMO (but more on that in a future thread ).

Hah... I'm working on a project at work -- it's a headphone amplifier. The specification states a certain chipset to be used -- in order to achieve ~0.000003% THD+N. I have to follow the customer's specification, but that kind of figure is insane. Research shows that the majority of people cannot hear beyond 1% and the limit is 0.1% for essentially everyone. But, the audiophools will buy it!

    Audiophool?

The RHA's cost me $20 (15 British Pounds) and sound far better than BEATZ crap.

If you read and comprehend you'll see I'm slating the Beatz, which are nasty made in China hardware marketed by a sell out (Dr Dre). Google 'sarcasm' for help with that one, but the clue is where I say that Dr Dre is a scientist and imply that Justin Bieber is somehow important to music.

I've never tried Sentry, but I'm willing to bet they sound at least as good as BEATZ products costing three times as much. Looking at some youtube reviews of Sentry headphones, they look, well, like cheap made in China headphones and every bit as good as your $5 budget would suggest.

The RHA's on the other hand are designed and made in Scotland by some ex-LINN audio engineers and are damn near indestructible. I bought them to replace a set of Sen 212Pros and they were most bang for my buck I could find at the time and half the price of a new set of Sen's. I love 'em, they sound great.

I listened to beats and sentry same song same computer and sentry won hands down! lower tones can be heard and don't degrade, indie/rock sounds a lot better on sentry than beats and beats had a scratching sound to it so I will stick to the better ones sentry!

I'll stick to my RHA's. A fifth the price of that sh!t and sound 100 times better.

    I own "a pair of" Sennheiser hd212pro.

I don't really use them much these days cause I'm satisfied with my Logitech 5.1 speakers but they're great.

Never really liked any of the Beats headsets. Always thought they were overrated and overpriced.

Only ones I wear now are my Panasonic RP-HT360 monitor headphones. Abused my first set, now I use my second set most of the time. The first set stays at home, though.

Some years ago, I owned a pair of Jensen monitor headphones. I loved the way they sounded, then they had to die after a year of use.

@goontron: I vaguely remember owning a set of cheap Sentry headphones, and they actually did sound good for the price, so yeah.

I am not fancy about having good earbuds/headphones, but the pair I use now are from apple - I got them with my ipod.

AND, they have lasted about 3-4 years longer than the ipod itself! (ipod randomly died one day, nothing at all.. out of warranty, didn't want to have to pay $100 to have it diagnosed; I took it apart and the battery was fine - there was a problem with some of the tiny circuitry)

Bose has been denigrated since the 901's came out in the seventies. I guess they were ahead of their time because I see a lot of high end, read expensive, speakers use a similar arrangement today. Ten 6" speakers instead of one 12". I heard the 901's when they first came out, they sounded better than mine at the time. I got free 6"x9"'s from the junk yard and put them in cabinets. Ripped them out of early sixties Cadillacs before they were crushed. They sounded better than what came with my Sears close and play. Later, when I had money, I bought top of the line traditional speakers. There about half as big as I am and weigh about half as much. I hate having to move them. It was a lot easier 30 years ago.

I can't say that these Beats by Dre headphones / earbuds / earphones are all cheap junk. My roommate let me try his earphone the other day. It didn't sound anywhere near as good as my cheap Sony MDR-032 headphones that I've had for 12 years now, but compared to most other earbuds / earphones I've tried, they were better. Now, if you ask me if I think they are worth their >$50 price (I think my roommate said something like $70 or $100, I don't remember) - absolutely not!

And whoever says Beats headphones / earbuds / earphones are overrated and overpriced - I agree with you 101%. It's nothing more than a pricey fad. For the money, you can get many headphones that sound way, WAY better.

Thank you for making this thread so that I didn't have to.

    Do people still overclock?
    by eccerr0r
Yeah it's free speed, but do people generally still overclock their computers risking instability, using more power/cooling, etc. or have people simply accepted stock speeds or perhaps it's pretty much impossible to overclock in general because CPUs are already at its limits, or perhaps it's not possible without surgery, ridiculous cooling, or signed firmware hacks nowadays?

Wondering if I should run my 2.67GHz C2Q at 3 or 3.2GHz and risk instability or corruption during the summer months as it's nice and cool now during the winter...

    Random people pinging your computer...
    by eccerr0r
I do have a website but it's not for general use. Definitely not doing any e-commerce, and at most it's just general computer information if it has any value at all.

However I noticed that people are sending ping requests to my computer, constantly. In fact I get around 8000 individual ICMP echo requests a day though each IP sending them send multiple packets.

I set my computer to stop replying to them to see if it would stop. Nope.

What value is there is to sending these if I don't respond to them? Anyone have similar data?

    Just curious of what...

Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen3 stuck on "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen
    by BMCappelletti
    Hi everyone.
Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 3, stuck on the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen.
Found a lot of people with this issue, but with no definitive answer. Some people managed to get away accessing BIOS, going to Startup and turning off "Option Key Display". For me that only removed the interrupt normal start up message, leaving only the Lenovo logo.
Most people say hitting Enter does not work. It's true, if you wait a few seconds. But if you hit Enter right away you get the options to enter BIOS (which works), run diagnostics (goes to a...

    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
