    Sony ZS-S2ip boombox no sound

    Hello

I have a sony zs-s2ip boombox that has no sound output at all. I tried all the functions ipod, radio and cd and none of these will output sound. I plugged in headphones and I get no sound either just a faint buzz. It appears this problem is common as I saw someone on amazon complain of the same problem with this equipment. What tools can I use to diagnose this? How can I diagnose this problem? I opened the boombox up and the motherboard capacitors look good. Your help is appreciated. Thanks

The buzzing noise could be caused by a filter cap that has failed or is too small or a component that has failed shorted and is overloading the power supply. This boombox appears to be similar to the CFD-S01, but with an iPod dock instead of the tape deck. I would guess that the input switcher or volume control IC could have failed or a component has failed in the bass boost circuit.

How can I check if the volume control has failed?what tools do I need to find out if the volume control ic or if a component in the bass boost circuit has failed?

It looks like this boombox has an auxiliary input (a black jack on the right side of the case). If it exists, does it work? If it works, the problem is limited to the input switcher and the circuits on three of its four inputs.

You should first check for bad solder joints. These will appear to have a dark ring around the component lead. If you see any, remove the solder and apply fresh solder. Sony devices usually have terrible soldering.

If that does not help, you can use another amplifier to find where the audio signal is lost. Look up the part numbers on the ICs to determine which are in the audio signal path, then connect the amplifier's input to the audio pins on the ICs. Connect a capacitor between the chip and the amplifier to prevent any DC voltage from entering the amp.

Look at this post to see the insides of the CFD-S01. The audio circuit should be very similar to what is in your boombox. The second picture shows the volume control (IC302), the main amplifier (IC303), and the Mega Bass circuit (the group of components between the two). The input switcher was on a separate board in this boombox and used a different chip than yours because mine has a tape deck and the input switcher IC had a built-in tape preamp.

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Sony CFD-E55 boombox blown line transformer & repair

Is a mid-2000’s boombox worthless? - I’d say probably yes or at least certainly a candidate for this thread:
          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...post+worthless

Long story long , my dad picked up a Sony CFD-E55 boombox over a decade ago from the trash room in a condo where we used to live.
(Note: picture below is of the boombox after the repair.)

He then put it in a box when we moved places and it sat in the garage for a few years. Eventually, I tested the boombox and found that it worked on batteries, but not on...

Sony SLV-E780 Power Supply Issue – Clicking Sound, Need Help Identifying Faulty Component
          by Akuanka
          Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting a power supply issue with a Sony SLV-E780 VCR. The device clicks repeatedly but doesn't power up completely. I've already replaced five capacitors, but the problem persists.

Here's a video link https://photos.app.goo.gl/3Xki6yvCLn67gLX78 showcasing the sound. Based on your experience, could this be due to a transformer, diode, or another component? Any guidance on what to test or replace next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Trying to Save - SONY BRAVIA KD-75X780F - No Picture BUT there’s sound
          by KYBOSH
Previous owner said TV just went blank one day.
They attempted to open the back panel and yanked the power connector off the power supply in the meantime.
Easily fixed that and got the TV to turn on. Backlights come one with everything connected. Good Sign.
The mainboard shows signs of life (red light on digital audio out is on) but that's about it. Good Sign.
There is not blinking LED and the most importantly there is LED response and sound when I press the MENU button on remote control. GREAT Sign.

I just downloaded the Sony KD-75X7800F Service Manual and...

          Sony Bravia KD-50X690E NO SOUND
          by x_orange90_x
Finally got my KD-50X690E up and running after replacing the power supply. Upon testing it I noticed the lack of sound from the speakers. At first I just ignored it thinking it was set to external speakers or some other kind of audio setting. However, after actually going into settings and looking around I see nothing of this sort. I looked it up on Google and apparently a lot of people have disappearing audio on a variety of Sony TVs 🙄. I'm going to see if a firmware or software update will resolve it, if available.

Has anyone else had this happen to their tv?
