Anyone got info on these puppies? Haven't tried to power them on yet.

Re: Found Some Cool Old Radios
The Opus is definitely a tube radio the Grundig may be as well don't attempt to plug them in without replacing all of the electrolytic and paper caps inside.
Paper caps are a replace on sight item on tube equipment. Electrolytic caps depending on how they were canned may still be usable or may have dried up. Again older electrolytic caps don't meet the same safety standards as their modern counterparts so if they were to fail there is a chance of fire.
Mica and ceramic caps can be left as is they are very reliable and almost never fail.
If either of them are line operated (no power transformer) replace the X and Y interference suppression caps with modern fail safe film caps.
In the old days they just used standard ceramic caps, mica caps, or even worse paper caps. I can guarantee that the paper caps will be long gone and the ceramics and micas aren't certified for suppression purposes. This is the only circumstance where you should replace a ceramic or mica cap if it's a line suppression cap.
Be careful with line operated units their power plugs aren't polarized so one side of the chassis can be live depending on which way the plug is in the outlet. It's best to avoid live measurements on these units unless you have it hooked up to an isolation transformer.Last edited by Krankshaft; 10-28-2011, 08:17 PM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

by TouenoHello,
My Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, model HP00, no longer starts.
After disassembling and accessing the electronic motherboard, I found that the 16A fuse soldered to the motherboard is dead. I decided to do an electronic shunt to see the reaction, and the Dyson turns on for a few seconds and then turns off.
It is likely that a voltage control chip or a safety chip is dead, but without the electrical schematics, the repair becomes complicated…
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by edugimenoHi there!
I have an old wine bottle cooler, it's a basic peltier cell system with a power supply built in with the controller board, with a simple display at the front door and 2 push buttons to select the desired temperatura.
Symptoms are it doesn't barely cool down, and makes a chirping noise at the board.
Both fans on each side of the peltier are (now, after much cleaning) running smooth and silent
When you turn it on, the front 7-segment display flickers for a variable time, usually like 1 minute but sometimes nothing or 3 minutes... Then turn on solid (but still some... -
by flibidyI have here a Magnum IA.100 which belongs to my parents.
The unit powers on & when the relay kicks in, you get a pop from the speakers (this might sound weird but is usual behavior for this amp). However, you get nothing coming through it from any of the inputs & no pops and crackls from any of the controls.
Because of the sound from the speaker when the amp turns on I have assumed that the output section probably works but I could be wrong & I'm not sure how to test that side of things further.

by honigmannThis machine comes with the i7-8850H, no internal drive and no battery installed, the bottom cover removed, an original Dell power supply is used. I just installed 8GB RAM, ran memtest86+ and noticed a power draw of about 40-50W. Accordingly within minutes the temperature went up to just below 100 degrees with the fan spinning wildly. Same thing when I enter the BIOS (1.20.0), around 40W power draw.
Next thing I tried was an install stick with Linux Mint on it. Initially I am also at around 40W but with idle desktop (Xfce) it draws just 6,5W. Is this a BIOS issue? Version 1.34 is... - Loading...
