    Police Scanner time delayed problems.

I hope this is the right place to post this, feel free to delete or move if not correct.

I have a Realistic Pro 2021 200 channel scanner it's old I bet in the late 80's, it's just like this one in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7loVEiktnw

No one has done any mods to it. Not my vid.

The problem that I am having is the scanner will work good for two/three days left on all the time, then it will start picking up just noise and static on the local police feq. then if I turn it off and leave it off overnight it will work fine again static free for two to three days.. The static is very annoying dozens and dozens of times an hour.

To me it sounds like a cold solder joint, but that problem would happen much sooner then two/three days. It should heat up in an hour or so. I am stumped.. If it was interface, that would be all the time?

I'd check the power supply output both when it's working, and when it conks out.
I haven't seen a 2021 for many years, but I know the 2004 2005 2006 had basic linear unregulated power supplys that ran a bit warm. could be warming up and causing a bad solder joint to open, or a bad cap somewhere or could be a front end transistor that fails when it gets warm.

Some freeze spray migh help isolate it. Wait till it dies, then cool a few things at a time and see if it comes back.

          No problem.

Just post some BCN standard overhead photos of the main PCB assembly component side and solder side.
