Hi i have a sony STR-K740P that once i turn it on it goes in to protect mode. Ive done some research and sony says it could be caused by speakers being plugged in incorrectly. Ive removed the speakers completely and tried to turn it on with nothing plugged in just power and it still gives me the same message. is there anything i can look for on the logic boards?

Re: Sony STR-K740P protect mode
I have had these give me logic trouble not sure about yours. I would check output ics for shorts. If you run 4 ohm speakers on these outputs that is a slow death for them. I don`t know how old yours is, but they don`t make them the way they did years ago. If you are running normal 8 ohm loads and had trouble then also check solder joints and plug connections. Make sure output connections are free of loose/frayed wires (seen that alot).
If it is logic then most likley needs some board re soldering.
Good luck -
Re: Sony STR-K740P protect mode
ok so while i was taking it apart i resoldered all the joints on the back of the logic board and put it all back together just to see if that would help and when i turned it on it worked but i also noticed that i didnt plug in the stk pwb 1-687-113-11 and when i plugged that back in i got the protect mode again. any ideas? also does anyone know what the stk pwb is or doesComment

Re: Sony STR-K740P protect mode
That's good. The STKs are the power amplifiers, and they generally don't like 4 ohm loads.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

by caseyjay_48I am currently on a troubleshoot of 46” Sony KDL-46BX450 tv. I came back from Washington to Texas on medical emergency and had to leave all my tools up there. All I have is a couple of screwdrivers and a dvm. I wish to ask the community a troubleshooting question. Please forgive stupid questions as meds I am taking produce brain fog.
I have well maintained Sony KDL-46BX450. It went black one day. After turn-on, I get solid green light and Sony logo in screen center for about 1-2 seconds, then black. No blinking LEDs, no hissing. Flashlight test shows screen characters dimly viewable,... -
by DynaxSCHi,
I have this board, where I have exchanged the LGA1151 socket. During testing I discovered, that the large PCIEX16 slot won't by no force work in x16 mode, but keeps to work in x8 mode only.
I tested this with GPU-Z, also with Render Test (but tried also Furmark and Heaven Benchmark - no effect).
Tested on Core i5-9600K as well as on an Pentium G5420 and MSI NVIDIA GTX1070 and 2 other cards, including RTX3060Ti.
Board architecture definitely allows x16 mode, as all 16 PCIe lanes are present between CPU and main GPU slot (nearest to CPU).

by x16Hi,
i have Lenovo Thinkpad T14 gen 1 20S1 / SN: PF2M0XAG.
I moved resistor like every time and read MEC chip with SVOD4. I unlocked 3 other mainboards successfully but this one could not read. SVOD 4 Software says: "MECxxxx series in protect mode, work mass erase only". Like in screenshot.
What can i do?...-

by cookFAST MODE vs NORMAL MODE
I have recently acquired a HP 6632A DC power supply. I am just beginning to use it and I have been reading the manuals for it. It is the first power supply I have ever owned or used. I am a very beginner hobbyist and do not have an engineering background, as may be obvious by my question...
I can't seem to understand what the actual use is for the 'Fast Mode' or the 'Normal Mode' on the power supply. Although the manual states what the two modes do from a engineering/technical standpoint, I don't know enough to understand what it all means,... -
