Does anybody have experience using HE series of Nichicon, specially part number UHE2A331MHD6?
Nichicon HE series experience?

Re: Nichicon HE series experience?
I have used Nichicon HE series capacitors in one particular recap project. It was the only series of good quality low ESR capacitors that I could get hold of in the appropriate physical dimensions.
Needless to say that they worked just fine.
I think that the HE series of capacitors do not have specifications that are as good as the Panasonic FM, FC series capacitors or the Rubycon MBZ series of capacitors. However they are way ahead of garbage capacitors.
The way to check this is to pick up the data sheet for the Nichicon HE series and compare it to the competition. Usually it is not difficult to source the Panasonic FM and FC series of capacitors.
The things to look out for when comparing equivalent capacitors include:
ESR - lower is better
Ripple - Higher is better
Nichicon is considered a good brand. However they have had an issue with their HN(M) series of capacitors in the past.
By the way, what are you trying to fix? Pictures help a lot.
BTW, welcome to the forums! -

says this is a general purpose cap not low esr, needs checking outComment

Re: Nichicon HE series experience?
A 100 volt cap on a mobo???? Not likely.
Not low enough ESR in the HE series for mobo work.
Shadow is correct regarding Panasonic FC or FM(best).
Ruby MBZ's & MCZ's are available from this site https://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=22 .
If you have to use Nichicon, stay with the HZ(best) or HN series.

Re: Nichicon HE series experience?
I have used HE series since 2006, no problem so far. perfect for PSU recap and mobo (vrm input). it has a long lifetime and low enough esr. And IMHO, im not agree about FC better than HE, it's the way arround : HE is beter than FC.days are so short when you actually do something..Comment

However I used the HE capacitors for a P3 system. P3's don't stress the VRM as much as modern processors as far as I know.Comment

The way to compare caps grades between series' is to look at ESR and Ripple for the same can size.
Since you use Digikey their non-poly grades go like this:
giving Ripple/ESRLooking at 8x20mm can size and giving Ripple/ESR:
-
------ 8x20mm ---------- 10x20mm -----
-
FM -- 1560 / .030 -- -- - 2180 / .019
-
KZE - 1280 / .041 -- -- - 1820 / .023
-
KY -- 1050 / .069 -- -- - 1400 / .046
HE -- 1050 / .069 -- -- - 1400 / .046
-
PW -- 995 / .065 -- -- - 1220 / .052
FC - - 995 / .065 -- -- - 1220 / .052
LXZ -- 810 / .080 -- -- - 1220 / .052
You STILL have to look up the specs for the individual caps because for a given uF a 'better grade' series may have a 10x12.5mm can and the 'lesser grade' series has a 10x25mm can.
In that case the 'lesser grade' cap may have better specs due to the larger can size.

Re: Nichicon HE series experience?
KZE are a great choice for all-around on P3 boards and they tend to be less expensive than the others from Digikey.

Re: Nichicon HE series experience?
That's a simply good guidlines, Bonez
KZE are goods, but the brown family caps of chemicon are easy to be counterfeited. Fake chemicon caps can easily be found here like brownies cakes. (Oh, but that's my story..) But i guess if u buy it from reputable online shop like digikey then there's no worries.

Sorry for my error, I was mislead by Digikey been on Nichicon site and HE are described as Extremely Low Impedance,
And with other members input there can be no doubt about the above advice being correct.

by DrewPhillipsHello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.
The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...-

by chth96I want to calculate capacitor ESR referring to below guide.
https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633
I must find out dissipation factor(Tan(δ)) for nichicon lxj series(6.3v 1500uf,25v 1000uf ,10v 2200uf)
I finally found out datasheet which has all series of nichicon capacitor. But unfortunately, It removed old nichicon capacitor.
Is there anyone who still has old nichicon datasheet which has information of LXJ series?-

by chth96A few days ago,I destroyed one of my japanese retro game console by pluging it to 220v outlet.
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...e-been-blew-up
and I finally fixed this retro game console by soldering varistor and glass fuse.
But I noticed that When I measure voltage of PSU's 5pin connector, it is 8.80-9.07v, 5.13v,3.40-3.48v,GND,GND instead of its rated voltage of 9v 5v 3v GND GND.
I have spare console...-
