    power consumption?

Hi guys:i bring up this topic because i came across a forum that discussed the power consumption of Satellite Receivers on Standby, and somebody there said that the receivers consume as much power if receiver stays on standby as it consumes when turned on.So i went ahead did some calculations on my 322 receive, and came up with these numbers,i may be wrong on my calculations correct me if I'm wrong!.
    With my Fluke 87 measured 0.236miliamps turned on,and 0,226
    in standby,

    on standby 120v/0.226=530 Ohms,120x120=14.400/530=0.027watts.
    turned on 120v/0.236=508 ohms,120x120=14.400/508=0.028watts.

i don't know if these #s are correct, but if they are than the power consumption is very low and is not that bad,if not than this receivers are not green at all, because no matter what kind of equipment they shouldn't waist as much energy on standby as in on mode.So anybody here is an expert enough to refute my numbers?

    Re: power consumption?

I think your reading of 0.236mA should be 0.236 Amps - if not then you have an amazingly efficient receiver!

    That gives (120V times 0.236A) = 28.3 Watts, and 27.1W in standby.

That's in the normal range for a satellite receiver - as you can see switching to standby saves almost no power, in fact, its about the difference you expect just by turning on/off the front display and lights.

Your right my mistake should be 236miliamps and 0.236A and the receiver has a total power consumption of 50w,.although it's low power consumption i still think this should be like my Sonny tv 1w in standby, this is not very green is it? nowadays since this free wild global market started there are no more rules for green conservation, there was a time they banned Standby Led on equipment, but since everything started to be built in china there are no more rules of any sort isn't this ashamed, also this kinda behavior led us to bankruptcy.

hm...sat. receiver can be set up to power the lnb at all times, perhaps that's why you don't see bigger difference...

one satellite receiver i have has 30w max consumption(when in stby and lnb powered off, it's probably less than 5) and another one has ac/dc adaptor that's rated 12V 2A ie 24w.

this is essentailly linux pc with satellite tuner added...

boils down to content; are there enough good quality free-to-air channels to justify you buying this?
if not, can it be used to watch via some pirate ways, and are you willing to take that risk?

because other than that tuner, this is just a pc.
and not a cheap one, if i may add.

              That is not entirely true.
              Standby means different things.
Depending on who 'named it' for that device, it might be referring to the equipment's condition or the users condition.
Standby is often as a name for the power saving mode but in others (like your receiver) it's just describing the user interface condition.

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
                  by fharris1977
Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.

                  Samsung BN44-00259A standby question
                  by Crystaleyes
                  Hi all.

I started a thread while back regarding TV power supply standby circuitry as it is something I am not quite on top of.
SMPS theory and function is becoming more familiar, however the standby part is still a bit of a mystery.

Anyway, a friend has this TV with the above mentioned power supply board which has no standby voltage, nor any other voltages leaving the board.
The mains AC comes in fine, gets filtered and rectified with power is on the main filter cap as well as the transformer and drain pins of the ICE3B0665J, but that's it.

JSK4228-050 Power Supply Standby voltage changing! (Possible from Wharfedale LTF37K1)
                  by reessi
                  Hello,

I am trying to re-purpose this power supply that I saved years ago from a tv with a cracked screen for a monitor but that is not really that relevent at the moment. I do not recall which tv but a google search looks like it is from Wharfedale LTF37K1.

You may notice I made some alterations moving some components to the top and some wires which are from a 5v regulator I fitted to the 12v output as the monitor requires 5v. The standby was already at fault from the beginning, it has nothing to do with the alterations...

Years ago it had some bulging caps...

                  Yamaha TSX 120 Standby Problem
                  by psssst
Hello forum. I've recently been given a Yamaha TSX 120 DAB radio and ipod dock. Its working well however when put on standby its using 6.3 watts. The manual states less than 1 watt on standby. I measured this with a plug in monitor which seems accurate with other items. In use it uses around 7.5 watts. Firstly has anyone who owns a similar radio also got a plug in monitor to check if this is normal with this unit? In the first half a second the monitor shows 0.3 watts which I suspect is what it should use but something is switching it to be almost fully powered. I've searched the manual for eco...

                  by ChristianBr01
                  Hello everyone,
I got a Samsung The Frame 55 inch TV for free from uncle cause it is not turning on anymore. I am in the second year of training as an electrician so I have knowledge already but I am far away from to be a pro.
The TV has Standby but ist not turning on. A Friend of mine owns a 50 inch Frame TV so I checked the One Connect Box and the One Connect Cable there. Both are good and working normally. I have opened the TV case and measured some voltages on the Board.
What I already found is that the 12.8V are not an the connector to the main board connector to the power...
