Adding LED's to ESD mat and wrist-strap grounding

I always have problems with bench ESD mats becoming ungrounded. The snap pops off, wires break, and the end is usually buried under a ton of stuff on the bench.

I put a pair of high-brightness 3V green LED's in series with the mat ground.
Getting up and moving my feet, while touching the ESD mat, one LED surges bright depending on static polarity.
This is kind of what I expect to happen while wearing no wrist-strap. Your body gets a triboelectric charge from friction with the chair, or moving your feet.

To my surprise, the LED's light up (dimly) all the time

I measure 3uA AC and amazed the green LED's indicate so low. About 70pF of stray capacitance between mat and mains cords to get this current.

You might want to add these indicators. It's great to know your mat is grounded or if leakage current is high.

The LED's are 100mA peak rated and I haven't hit them hard- winter I can easily make 20kV so we'll see if this lasts.

    put a neon in parallel
that will limit the led voltage so they only get destroyed by about 80v

The neon lamp I don't think can work on an ESD mat ground.

I was going to use one, then realized the 1 MEG safety resistor limits current to prevent lethal shock if you touch mains while grounded to the mat or a wrist-strap.

Bypassing the resistor+LED's with a neon lamp, then no current-limiting once it's lit. So you could get mains shock.

My multimeter will not read in the 50-100 MEG resistance of static-dissipative plastics.
These silly LED's also can be used to check out anti-static bags, foam etc., they don't light up through ordinary plastic.

Corsair K70 LUX RGB dying LEDs
        by Pipolups
        Hi there !

I'm having an issue for several weeks with my quite old K70 LUX RGB keyboard. I haven't used it for few months, and once I setup up again my desktop computer, I got several dead LEDs on that keyboard. I tried the Corsair troubleshooting thing (disabling options in iCUE, ...) but nothing changed so I conclude that for some reason some LEDs went in retirement...😅
Decision taken to change these LEDs as I have access to desoldering iron and binocular magnifier, I wrote a ticket to tech support, hopping to obtain the LEDs reference and... They refused to tell me 🙄...

Samsung UN46EH5000, no backlight, total 44 LEDs 15 LEDs work, all 44 LEDs are series all togter if one LED opened then tv has no backlight.

        1. Shorted.... That LED was opened. Pic 1

        2. With only15 LEDs, Basically the TV has been fixed by shorted the open one. Pic 2, 3

        3. Add 30 LEDs, from Proscan 50" tv, for tv backlight brightness and stability. Pic 4

        4. Connect wires series to LED driver cable. Now we have 45 LEDs are working.

        5. Marked added LED's hole positions. Pic 5

        6. With one LED under as an Indicator light....

        Insignia NS-37D20SNA14 intermittent LEDs
        by THE GTC
So I use this TV daily as a second monitor for my PC or my Playstation - at one point a few months back I tried to fix the problem - but in the process, I figured out something that works so I haven't posted this for awhile. It is an annoying trick to have to do though, so I decided to post about it to see if anyone could spot what's wrong. It baffles me because it works on it's own half the time.

When I first got this TV, I was told it wouldn't turn on, and of course I did the flashlight test, and the image was there. Also, the red LED on the front indicated that it had power (it...

        Replacing Mode Indicator LEDs
        by VitalComputing
        Hi all,

I have what should be a simple job but is causing me issues. There are three LEDs (yellow, green and red) on the indicator panel of a solar PWM controller and these have broken off. I need to replace them but I am unsure of the voltage drop across these. I don't want to replace with random LEDs in case they blow.

I took one of the LEDs out of circuit, put 19V across it with a 500 ohm resistor in series and there is a drop of about 13V across the LED, and this seems to increase as I increase the input voltage.

I thought I could just put a resistor...

just a quick question do all qled leds appear blue when fault finding ?
        by jimbofz
i have replaced many leds strips that have changed blue when they are worn
and the new replacements are perfect white
but when fault finding do quantum leds always look blue?
