Not sure of the power draw on a circuit, the resisor specified is a 56 ohm 5 watt, what can I use that is cooler running? The resistor is used as a load on a 12v circuit.

A physically larger resistor like a 10 watt resistor will have less temperature rise because of its lager surface area. Or you could attach the 5 watt resistor to a finned heatsink.
Or use a high resistance if it doesn't cause other problems. -

56 ohms accross 12 volts is about 214 ma of current, so the wattage would be about 2.6 watts.Comment

Thanks, probably go for a 10w resistor, did think of an aluminium ohmite resistor, think they do a 15w one.Comment

any wattage resistor will get as hot . use a heat sink to dissipate the heat or install a fanComment

Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.
Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor... -
I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short… that's not the direction they fail… or so I thought.
I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors... -
The resistor on this waterpik blew. I changed it with the a similar spec 47ohm 2 watt yageo resistor but it still keeps blowing the resistor. Checking with the multimeter the motor, capacitor, diodes, and thermal fuse all checked normal. Will a higher ohm resistor work better? What ohm resistor will work better to repair this waterpik? I have an HP Victus 15-fb laptop with the DAG3PRMB8D0 motherboard, Ryzen 7 7535HS CPU, and RTX 2050 GPU. I had a short on the 19 V line, and I was forced to replace the following components:
1- 2 nmos near dc jack connector
2- ic charger (88739b) + small resistor between CSIN pin and sense resistor output
3- i changed also a 1 dual mosfet in VRM
After replacing the VRM MOSFETs and the charger IC, the laptop works and the CPU survived 🙏
However, now I have a problem: the laptop is very slow, running only at 0.4 GHz.

Hi friends of electronics
What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.
The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.
Please help me fix this circuit.
