Chip identification

Hi I need help identifying a chip on a cq58b motherboard the markings are as follows:-

3242V 2n503 MXA

I maybe able to post a picture any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the IC round? Does this package match what you're after? http://www.microsemi.com/packaging-i...tails?pid=5535

If so, 2N503 pulls up http://alltransistors.com/transistor...ransistor=4431
Please double check though because I haven't.

Hi many thanks for the replies, the chip is rectangular and appears to have 7 pins each side and 1 pin at each of the smaller sides.

Thanks for the links, unfortunately the chips are different which is a shame.

Finding it very difficult to find a replacement, the cq58 came into contact with juice the user turned it off,but after about half/hour switched laptop back on and wondered why it wouldn't power

Anyways here is a couple of pics please excuse the quality I do not own a high end SLR LOL

Just wondered if I clean the chip in question give it a bit of fresh solder maybe a miracle will happen.

Also noted a couple of small caps that look a wee bit charred

i would desolder it, clean the board & chip and put it back down.

if you dont have the tools, try cleaning it with alcahol and a toothbrush - make sure you get between the pins.

Yeah was thinking may give that a go, looks like it may of burned though.

Tell us the markings on the other ICs. In this way we might be able to determine which, if any, of the markings are YWW or YYWW (Year/Week) date codes.

For example, "503" might suggest week 03 of 2005 or 2015.

The markings on the crystal at YS3 might also give us a clue. The fact that the chip requires a crystal would suggest that it may be a processor/controller of some kind, or perhaps a clock generator?

Hi ok so the markings on YS3 are H252F

The other IC to the right labelled U1101 has these markings:-

TI 25I
C6Y9

The TI part is a TPS51211. Unfortunately I don't recognise the date code format, nor is the datasheet of any help. :-(

I'm not sure about the crystal, but 252 would suggest 2500, so I would think that means 2.5MHz. That's an odd value, though. Maybe it's 25MHz?

Perhaps other chips might have more recognisable markings?

Hi again

Thank you for your input, on visual inspection of the cq58 motherboard it appears that a couple of the ceramic caps in the 3rd pic seem to be burnt, and there is a couple of others also appear tarnished will post a pic of these.

And other than these the only other issue I can see is with the IC that has these markings:-

3242V
2n503 MXA

What I will do as a first port of call is remove and clean area were said IC is attached to board and see how this goes.

Proving to be a pain in the padded to find replacement chips for this.

Ok so have removed the problematic 3242V 2n503 MXA chip, it appears to have lost a pin were the liquid must of come in to contact.

I put the laptop together to see how it behaved, well it powers on to a blank screen both external connection or built in display also laptop will shut down soon after switching on.

Now I know that a blank screen is associated with a graphics problem, but just wondering now if the missing chip has something may provide a circuit with the gpu.
