    Need help identifying old capacitors

    Hello everyone –

I am in the middle of restoring an old Macintosh all-in-one computer from the early 90s. It has a built-in Trinitron CRT monitor, and I am currently focused on rebuilding the analog board that drives it. The analog board is a combination of two power supplies and all the electronics that drive the CRT.

I have just finished replacing all electrolytic capacitors with brand new Nichicon, and now I would like to replace the three rectangular baby-blue colored caps that can be seen in this picture:

I am not sure what type of capacitor these are or how to read the values. They are “Evox” brand, and these are the codes written on top:

    .0082H1600

    1.8J160

    2.2J160

I also need help finding a replacement for this bad boy:

I am hoping to order exact replacements from Digi-Key. If anybody could help me crack these codes, or point me a to good website that will help me do so, I would really appreciate it. If you are into this sort of thing, here is my thread on another forum detailing my restoration of the old Mac:

    Cheers!

RIFA PME 290: X/Y Safety cap.

    Any side marking on those blue caps? .0082uF 5% 1600V, 1.8uF 5% 160V, 2.2uF 5% 160V?
Do you happen to have the diagram for the board then you may be able to tell what kind of film caps for those blue caps have to be?

Re: Need help identifying old capacitors

There are indeed side markings on those capacitors, here they are:

      Capacitor 1:
      Top Markings: .0082H1600
      Side markings: PSR, EVOX, 9321

      Capacitor 2:
      Top Markings: 1.8J160
Side markings: FMR, EVOX, ???? (can't read the four numbers, can desolder part if needed)

      Capacitor 3:
      Top Markings:2.2J160
      Side markings: PMR, EVOX, 9321

I have tried finding a schematic for the board, but no luck so far.

          EVOX RIFA PMR, PSR caps.
You can E-MAIL KEMET or DIGIKEY to get the sub for them.

          Capacitor 2:
          Top Markings: 1.8J160
Side markings: FMR, EVOX, ???? (can't read the four numbers, can desolder part if needed).

BTW, can you verify that it is 'FMR'? not PMR? More likely to be PMR also.

Any idea what capacitance the X/Y safety cap might be? I am guessing it is "10n", but I don't know what that means.

I also can't find any exact replacements for the baby blue caps, do you think if I up the voltage rating it will be OK?

              http://www.justradios.com/uFnFpF.html

              10nF = 0.01uF. I would use PANASONIC ECQUL series X/Y caps.

I would contact DIGIKEY or KEMET to see what they have for the EVOX RIFA subs.
Higher Voltage rating will be fine (as long as it will still fit into the board) but the type of cap is very important,

You are correct, the marking is actually PMR.

Re: Need help identifying old capacitors

Alright, so I heard back from Digi-Key and they just directed me to film caps. I also heard back from Kemet but they just directed me to a local sales rep.

After wandering around both Digi-Key and Mouser, my best educated guess is that the type of capacitor I need is Film, Polypropylene, High Pulse. Here are my proposed replacements:

                    Capacitor 1:
                    Top Markings: .0082H1600
                    Side markings: PSR, EVOX, 9321
                    Lead spacing: 15mm
                    Proposed replacement:http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...31366658759456

                    Capacitor 2:
                    Top Markings: 1.8J160
                    Side markings: PMR, EVOX, 9325
                    Lead spacing: 22mm
                    Proposed replacement:http://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...F461DM185F250L

                    Capacitor 3:
                    Top Markings:2.2J160
                    Side markings: PMR, EVOX, 9321
                    Lead spacing: 22mm
                    Proposed replacement:http://www.mouser.com/Search/Product...426HD7220JR6L2

                    Rifa Safety Cap:
                    Proposed replacement:http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...PMGbcM0Q%3d%3d
(I wasn't able to find the corresponding Panasonic ECQUL part)

When you get a chance, could you let me know if you think these parts will work?

                          Hey there, retro fans.

I have an MS6163 version 1 board I'm trying to repair which was obviously used as a donor because it's missing a few parts, mostly capacitors. There are few high quality images online that would allow me to read the capacitor values (bad angle, blurry photos). I thiiiink I've figured out most of the values for the missing ones except for one in particular, number C210, which is in the bottom-left of the attached photo. Could someone with this board be so kind as to take a look at theirs and tell me the capacitance and voltage values of all the highlighted missing...

hey all, iv got my favourite battery charger here which iv had for many years probably 15 years now or maybe even more. it still works good but thought id open it up to clean the dust out of it, lots of dust inside but now its clean and noticed 4 capacitors inside it and wondered if i should replace them.

I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow
