    interesting news.

    merger - Amel & Microchip
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/01...crochip_atmel/

this could be a good thing,
Atmel has this mess called atmel-studio7 that does not work, and never will work.
they tried to integrate the dev tools into windows - never a good idea.

Microchip went the other way and wrote MPLAB-X in java so it runs on any o.s.
and it does run very well.

so maybe they will write a new dev suite for the atmel chips in java - if we are lucky.

    Re: interesting news.

I wonder what this could mean for Arduino users, since many Arduino boards use an Atmel microcontroller?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

i dont think anything will change.
you dont spend billions on a profitable company to destroy it.
i expect the products to continue.

          i like them.

          i wouldnt use arduino though.
if you write in C or C++ and want a pinboard you should look at ST NUCLEO series boards.
they cost peanuts and have arm cpu's running 80-200mhz!
they even have a built-in usb programmer.

            NVidia bumpgate
            by piernov
Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"

May complete this post at a later date with more details.
Basically issue is a combination of thermal dissipation of the chip with hotspot,...

            EV-GO 's journey of unlocking the P53
            by EV-GO
            Good day, everybody!

Here I would like to log my progress of modifying and unlocking my P53.

I bought the P53 as a replacement for my slowly dying W520, and it needs to at least be able to do the same stuff.

            ( as I posted before here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/welcom...98#post3305798)

            It is a P53 20QN-000SGE.

I already upgraded the P53 with 128 GB RAM, 2x 2TB NVMe and the US/RU - keyboard, since it was shipped...

EC Microchip MEC1416-NU pls help me
            by conghuyms
I have a Dell G7 motherboard, model LA-E993P DDK51, which has lost the +3VALW power rail. Upon inspection, I found that the EC, model MEC1416-NU, is shorted. I need to replace it with a new chip, but I am not sure whether the new EC needs to be reprogrammed. Please help me. Thank you very much...

            PIC 16F1937 microchip
            by Donny2derby
Hi all. Hoping someone can help. There is an oil filled heater at work that is not running. The pump that fires the oil is not kicking in.

I've taken the PCB out the panel and found a board that is marked IPD-0018-E

It's receiving 230v ac and the output relay has 5v DC present. The various diodes and resistors etc all check out ok. The only thing seemingly left is the IC labelled as PIC 16F1937.

My question would be. How would I know this is the component causing the issue/how do I test? And should I simply order one and replace it? Or does it need programming...
