Understanding the code for this cap

Hi guys/ gals,

I am trying to research this cap and replace it. It looks to be an SMD tantalum cap rated at 47uF 35V. I got this figured out from the top line. The bott line has 704M3. Can some explain how to decipher this ? I appreciate all the help! I have a photo attached. The side of the cap has T065 btw. Thanks in advance!

470uF 25V will be bigger than that.
It is 47uF 35V.

Thanks for clarification Bud. Any idea what that bottom value means? I want to get this part ordered, otherwise this OEM charges a flat rate repair of $395.

"Any idea what that bottom value means?" Probably capacitor series (I.E. TPS, TPM, TAJ) U do not know for sure.
You may have to contact DIGIKEY to find out.

47uF 35V:
TAJ (General purpose SMT chip tantalum series) series has 400~900 mOhms (depends on case size)
TPS (Low ESR series) series has 250 mOhms
TPM (Super low ESR) series has 55 mOhms

So they have big range between the three.
The caps as shown in the pictures are made by AVX (you can see the symbol) so just need to find out which series that is.

Thanks Bud. I wonder if there's a chance at contacting AVX? I contacted the OEM for the device and they haven't gotten back to me yet after speaking to engineering.

Digikey may be the better place to contact since they sell AVX.

I'm in the process of trying to figure it out. 3 beers in lol. Contacted digikey again and they came up with a few part numbers. According to the size it's of the E type. I'm trying to understand what the tolerance and ESR value are by the 2nd row value of 704M3. The only thing I find is M= 20% tolerance possibly? I'm not sure how to get the ESR.

So enlighten us as how to tell if the cap is TPS, TPM, or based on the marking.
I would think something on the second line should tell us how to find which series of the cap is.

This is my best guess. For no reason other than coincidence. The side marking shows a T065. This AVX part number also ends this way. AKA the ESR value 65mOhms. Some reasonable sense?

I would get more than one of TPM and TPS, since one already failed so there is possibility that other may fail.
Install the TPM and see what happen since sometime too low of an ESR can cause problem.

Finally got the full info on this cap from an AVX rep. The T065 does relate to 65mOhm ESR. The tolerance is 10%. Thanks for your help fellas.
