    Re: Ribbon cut off ??

If it was cut off, you need to buy a new LCD ribbon cable. If it simply fell off then you can reattach it. Or if you are good at soldering you can try to solder wire by wire if it was cut.

Hopefully if your lucky it has a connector on each side and isn't soldered to the a PCB on one side.

If thats your problem you have no choice but to replace the board its soldered to or buy and solder a new ribbon cable onto it yourself.

If it has a connector on both sides the best thing to do is buy a new ribbon cable a reliable fix on these fragile connectors isn't very good. Especially in gigh flex areas like a laptops fold down screen where these cables get alot of abuse.

Normally the ends of those just push in at the LCD end.
Sometimes they are taped in place.

The other side has this little release thing that either pulls up (usually) or pops to the side (not seen often).

          The normal kind:
You have to push the cable into the slot then while holding it in push the lock-bar thing down on both edges alternatly (push with tip of small screw driver) until it's all the way in on both sides.
          Be careful.
Like zero room for mis-alignment because the contact areas are so thin in width.
          .

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
            by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

            Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

            First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

New wire for my RDE3340 Whirlpool electric range
            by wnlewis
OK. I got the rocker switch figured out thanks to the good advice on this forum.

Now I need to figure out the correct wire to go to the switch from the broiler element and from the oven element.

This is a Whirlpool RDE3340 electric range.

The common wire on the switch appears to have a high temperature insulating material. I am guessing that both the wire to the broiler and the wire to the oven elements also need relatively high temperature insulation. What do I need to look for? The broiler is rated at about 2400 watts.

            Where may I find parts...

Vintage fan repair, copper wire question
            by technicalspecialist
I currently have a customer's vintage fan on the work bench to repair.
It uses an induction motor with 4 poles. One of the poles is open.
I couldn't find the break so i cut off the original wire.
I have measured the other poles and the resistance is about 28 ohms per pole and I measured the diameter of the wire with my digital calipers and it is 0.35mm in diameter.

I need to work out how much 0.35mm diameter enamelled copper wire i need to order for it to be 28 ohms. I have used this calculator and it says i need 160.35 metres.

            The enamelled copper...

            by sam_sam_sam

            Quick question about the ribbon
            by Rubenlily
            Hey,

So I have horizontal lines on my TV and I'm trying to trouble shoot. My question about the ribbon is:

When I disconnect one ribbon from the t-con I should get half picture working and other half black or something like that correct? But when I disconnect the ribbon on one side I just get a dark screen and it doesn't matter what side I disconnect. I just get the dark screen. No half working, no one half black and the other one left. Sound is playing from the TV so it's obviously on and when both sides are connected I have the picture with the horizontal lines...
