    Re: capacitor series

Rubycon ZL series should be OK. I have seen them used in some PSUs before.

      Re: capacitor series

for psu you don't need the lowest of the low ESR caps.
Panasonic FC would be a reasonably good choice too from what I understand
...or whatever the equiv is the Asia region

Have a look through this post of Yanz's hard work to get some other options

          Re: capacitor series

While MBZ would be the better choice for some applications, FC and ZL would both be good series to use on motherboards.

            Re: capacitor series

It all depends on the design of VRM. If there is plenty space for several caps, you simply don`t need anything beyond FC or ZL.

If it is a Value board, designed with a two phase VRM and may be 4x 3300uF KZG, i think Panasonic FC or ZL are not suitable due to to high ESR.

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
              by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...
