Peltier coolers, replacing, wear over time...

I was wondering who had extensive experience with Peltier/Thermoelectric coolers, specifically for food/drink refrigeration though for high performance computing it's still relevant.

I wonder what is the lifetime of these things, do they tend to last forever? When they do degrade, how does it degrade?

If you can replace the Peltier element, is it worth to replace with a newer unit, will newer units tend to work better than old ones? Does upgrading do any good, or still stuck with the hot/cold max gradient?

I have a peltier based dehumidifyer and it seems that every 2 years I have to replace the pletier unit as they do seem to ware and not preform as well, I could replace the whole dehumidifier but you can buy peltiers for cheap on ebay just get the amps and voltage correct and you should be good.

Weird, one would think the Peltier element, as it is a semiconductor/solid state, it should have an extensive lifetime. Is the dehumidifier somehow getting wet perhaps and that's why it's killing itself?

How 'bad' is it when you have to replace it?

The cold side gets wet as thats where the moister in the air gets condensated, I know when it has failed because it doesn't chill or heat well it gets a little warm but nothing els, I do have a peltier mini fridge that I havnt had to change the unit in but that doesn't get used nearly as much as the dehumidiyfer I have that one for 12hours a day from september to may.

Gaming Laptop Zephyrus S17 TFT not detected every time !
            by titomno2
            Hi guys,
I post my problem here because I think it could be a capacitor related issue (Asus support on this particular subject is non-existing).
So the computer is a Zephyrus-S17-GX735LXS-26T and the strange behavior is seen.
On cold start most of the time the internal screen is detected and a picture it works fine until shutdown, sleep or deep sleep.
Then the screen won't work for a long period of time.
If I wait 1 or 2 hours it work again most of the time.
When it doesn't work the batterie indicator blink 3 times white stop and the same schematic is repeated...

Adding a clock battery to action camera to retain date&time when changing batteries Campark X25
            by flat-earther
I have a cheap action camera with an annoying trait, every time I change batteries the date & time gets reset and I have to set it again.

To solve this problem I want to add a small internal battery inside it which will keep supplying power to the camera for a while while I change batteries so the date & time is retained.

I have opened the camera and I think there is enough room to add something inside to accomplish this:

The camera is powered by a 3.7V nominal single cell lithium ion battery.
So I need to connect another battery in...

Intel iMacs, 3rd party SSD failures and Fusion setups
            by reformatt
I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx long time to get the power led on
            by OscarAV
            Hello,

I just came here to see if someone has had the same problem I have, and if he or she solved It, to know how to do It.

I have made a quick search for my laptop but I have not seen anything similar.

I have an old laptop, an HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx which takes a lot of time to be ready to start if the laptop has been unplugged for a while. It has no battery. The battery failed long time ago. It needs to be plugged to work. But as I said, It can take a lot of time until the charging led gets on, and I can switch on the laptop. I am using an external monitor...

Wine cooler flickers at startup and doesn't cool enough
            by edugimeno
            Hi there!
I have an old wine bottle cooler, it's a basic peltier cell system with a power supply built in with the controller board, with a simple display at the front door and 2 push buttons to select the desired temperatura.
Symptoms are it doesn't barely cool down, and makes a chirping noise at the board.
Both fans on each side of the peltier are (now, after much cleaning) running smooth and silent
When you turn it on, the front 7-segment display flickers for a variable time, usually like 1 minute but sometimes nothing or 3 minutes... Then turn on solid (but still some...
