    simple DIY voltage monitor

    I am designing a simple circuit that can catch a narrow glitch in voltage fluctation, and presented in visual/audio way, with as little as posible common type components. The circuit is done on test board and work like I wish. I post schematics here and like to hear a voice of educated electrician, hopefully to insight of some flaw or better design. Thank you

    Is this a cable tester or is it something more than that

    If it is something else please explain what you are going to use it for and explain what you are testing for

      Yes, it can be used as cable tester, but only one wire at the time. In this case the wire must have power in it, which is done by 1.8v power led supply, connection 2-3. If the wire lose connection in a fractial of time, or generate resistance greater then threshold, it beep and the state stay logged on LED. It also can be "self monitored" at some degree, with pins 2-3 connected together with jumper.................. Ocassionally, I need to be sure that some voltage stay all the time in some margin, so the device mostly produce handy audio notifycation if is something out of spec. Target is "one options more" in troubleshooting methods in repair, but real usage and usability is jet unknown...................... It is measurement device for general purpose, use it where it needed. I just work on universal pcb arrangement as a accessible and fast option to build for everyone. I just want to see and examine by profesionals before I do that

        Unfortunately unless you build the device you are not going to know exactly how it will respond in the real world testing because I have found in my endeavors the true value of a device is not known until you test the hell out of it

        This also true for proof of concept projects as well

            Yes very similar for purpose, but my latch only led channel, and extend audio pulse in two tone. Because have lack of knowledge, I run in lots of trouble when I done it on dotted pcb board. For some reason, it worked like expected on breadboard... Logic ic has hardtime to latch a npn base because of drivin led. I redesign it many time, solved one problem and faced to another. I have question to transistor placement regardless to logic ic and switch, is attached schematic technicaly correct as bare minimum?

                I start with that, but soon noticed that space on pcb is running out. My board is dotted universal pcb dimension 100 x 32mm for whole initial circuit in tht... so any future modification I somehow must fit into it.

                  this okay but you really need to test it yourself throughly before making a circuit board or that is the way I would approach it

                  or do a double side board where your power rails are on one side and the rest of it is on the other side

                  This approach will save board space for you

                    Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
                    The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
                    Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

                    Help identifying voltage regulator on this concept 2 pm5 monitor pcb board?

                    This Concept 2 rower pm5 monitor doesn't shut down. It keeps turning on and stays on after being turned off. I read on another forum by another user that replaced the same component to check the voltage regulator.
                    The monitor should pull around 35mA when turned on and in shutdown it should drops to around 0.060mA. Any advice on finding the voltage regulator on this board to check if it needs to be replaced?

                    Hello everyone!
                    As mentioned in the topic i am debugging a VG32VQ monitor which has a quite curios issue. For starters the backlight is working, the mainboard is also working and audio is being normally played thru the speakers. The problem of the monitor is that the screen is always blank(you can see the backlight turns on since the screen brightens a little bit but still black). When plugged into a computer the monitor is detected and HDMI signal is being broadcast to the monitor(checked with a data analyzer). The monitor panel should not be damaged but i am open to this option.

                    Burned Voltage Regulator in Monitor – How to Identify and Repair?

                    My computer monitor ASUS VP249H stopped working, and smoke came out of it.
                    I opened it and found that a voltage regulator had burned out.
                    The problem is that I can't identify its reference.
                    I searched online for schematics or photos of similar boards that people are selling, but without success (no schematics, bad quality of the board or lack of the reference when it's a good quality 😅).
                    How can I find its reference, and do you think it's repairable?

                    Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea.
