Dummy load in place of 1000V AC CCFL bulbs

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for a dummy load for those 1000V CCFL bulbs used in ~19/22 inch TVs.

    thanks,

I think there have been a few ideas using resistors to trick the system but
as each set is different its difficult. There is also a way of tricking the
error detection circuits but nothing concrete.

    Best plan is probably this:

It is in budms signature on any first post he makes in a thread.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

      Hi Selldoor,

I was thinking along the lines of what you are saying, i.e. using a high wattage resistor plugged in in place of the bulb... I think guitar amp repairers use this trick a lot... (instead of having the speaker as the load while they are testing it).

I remember a trick to fool the error detection where I soldered an LED between the CCFL controller chip and ground. It worked on one particular set but it was messy...

There seems to be a lot of kits available for testing laptop screens but not monitors/TVs.. Except those expensive bulb testers..

I'll have a read through that other thread.. thanks,

      J

        http://tangyind.blog.com/2011/10/04/...ection-method/ may be of use.

http://tel-spb.ru/inv_za.html also might help if you want to bypass the IC protection. Use Google Translate if you can't read Russian.

Might be better off with the budm's CFL trick though, as selldoor already mentioned.

you can buy a 12v invertor and a pair of coloured tubes for a few $ from pc customising places.
