APC BR1000G battery backup has a weird issue sometimes a bad battery icon and making a weird sound for about 30 seconds

This started a few days ago and does this about every 8 hours

After it does this it goes back to normal no bad battery icon and no weird sounds and it goes to battery backup mode so I am not sure what is going on with this battery backup

The battery backup is about 3 or 4 years old

Dose anyone have any idea on how to troubleshoot this issue I have never had a battery backup do this kind-a thing before so I am not sure exactly how to troubleshoot it and where to start

I bought two more of the BR1000G that work correctly but the one that was a BR1500G this one would go to battery backup but the fuel gauge bar was not functioning correctly so I did not take this one so I will either get a refund or a replacement for it

I also checked to see if the automatic voltage correction system was working correctly or not and it works correctly I still have to check the other one to make sure that the voltage correction system works correctly on the second one tomorrow hopefully it does work and now I waiting for another two sets of battery replacement packs from the same eBay seller that I bought the first set from

      Mystery solved

I had some time today after working 12 hour shifts yesterday and 4.5 shift today and after taking a nap—>

I decided to use my variac variable transformer and start off with the voltage setting at 120 volts with my heat gun/soldering iron as the load but was only using the heat gun side of it and slowly turning down the voltage until it reached around 87 volts it went to using the battery pack and the battery bars disappeared very quickly and went off very shortly afterwards took the battery pack out and separated them and put them on the battery testing machine and the first one started 13.0 volts with a 4 amp load and quickly went to 10.50 volt and slowly dropping

Put second battery on the battery testing machine and it results are much better 13.0 dropped to 12.50 volts and slowly dropping the 100th of a volt and then settled down to a steady voltage the test results are a little bit over 3.4something amp hours the battery is rated for 7 amp hour

One note when dropping the voltage down on the battery backup when it got to 105 volts it turned on the voltage correction circuit because the icon came on for it this dose not bother me but this part does I slowly went up to 130 volts and it did not go to battery backup mode or voltage correction mode I was a little bit surprised by this I would have thought that it would have kicked in at this this point I have never seen the voltage at my house that high before but with the electric company and there shit-e power sometimes who knows

I decided not to go higher than 130 volts to the battery backup because I not sure what to expect and did want to find out with letting the factory smoke out of it

I am in the process of getting replacement battery pack for this battery backup and I not going down the rabbit hole just buying the replacement battery cells because it has a plastic holder that holds the two batteries in place and I have one already that I replaced the battery packs only and had to put a piece of cardboard underneath the battery packs to make the battery connection because these battery packs are slightly shorter in height than the original battery packs what nonsense is this crap

There is a correction should be length not height is shorter than the original battery

Put the replacement battery packs in and it fully charged the battery and it passed the self test with no issues so it was definitely a case of a bad battery and a week battery

I bought three more used battery backup with no battery packs no battery holders I just need to make sure that they function correctly before I leave there place they are a eBay seller but they are located in Jacksonville Florida not too far away from me

Once I get 4 battery backup power supplies up and running I will have to get the four computers up and running so that I can have four independent battery testing machines up and running in my new shed

We are in the summer time now and today it is supposed to be a temperature of 101*F today and tomorrow and yesterday morning we had a momentary power outage but long enough to show power failure on our refrigerator which is fairly new so my compressor lock out devices that is over 20 years old is not functioning correctly anymore either so I see what is wrong with it as well

The way it is suppose to work is that when the power blinks it suppose to turn off the outlet for 5 minutes and then turn back on

I have several battery backups that are over 3 years old and every one of them is having battery issues so I have had to buy several new battery packs to get them back to normal operation and what I saw yesterday afternoon after 4 pm that the electric company was having issues keeping the voltage stable ( swinging 3 to 4 volts which was very noticeable on the battery backup voltage monitor screen ) have had to replace all of the battery packs in the older battery backup after 9 pm things were back to normal again

“The refrigerator which is fairly new so my compressor lock out devices that is over 20 years old is not functioning correctly anymore either so I see what is wrong with it as well

This is going to be a high priority for me to look into and see if I can repair this device they are not making this device anymore or at least I have not been able to find them anymore

I can build one out of central air conditioning anti recycling time delay module but it is going to have to be mounted on the wall and not as convenient as the device that just plugs into the outlet and you are done with it

do you cycle the batteries every few months or just ignore them till they fail?
it's best to do a full cycle every month on gel batteries.

No i do not but I probably should maybe not every month but maybe every other month would probably be better and only because it does the battery self test itself
The problem with doing this is that I would have to watch the battery fuel gauge so that it would not completely turn it self off because that when some of these battery backup go crazy when the battery is about dead or just turn off which is better if does this not the other situation

These SLA type batteries are a little difficult to figure out how to load test them to determine the milliamperes hours because I done it at 4 amp load and get a little bit over 3.5something at a 2 amp load I get a little bit over 4.2something I have to try 1 amp load and see what I get with this load

I've got tons of UPS kicking around in all kinds of commercial places. I do not fully cycle any of these batteries. I chuck em in and leave them until they die, or I change em preemptively after 3-4 years. That depends on how important the gear is. Unfortunately if the alarm is disconnected on the UPS and the bad battery warning is on and you ignore it, the UPS will shut down. At least it is that way on the smaller APC units with the single battery.

The varying mah test depends on what kind of load you are putting on. Yes, a light load, you get more mah's compared to a large load.

That what I figured what was going on with the results that I was seeing when testing this type of batteries

Yep that is the nature of the beast with any lead acid battery. I played a LOT around with desulfators in all kind of flavours and built these things left right and center.

Between doing a 1 amp to 4 amp load the difference between the one amp load and 4 amp load is about 1.7 amp hour which I found interesting because 18650 battery loose some amps hours as long as you do not load it beyond the normal current load for low current battery cells and high current the amp hour is not that noticeable unless you get closer to the maximum current capabilities of the battery cell

I have one more battery backup to check the battery and see if this one is weak or just bad because it was acting weird as well but I just have not had the time to deal with it maybe tomorrow morning or sometime tomorrow afternoon

Also I ran out of money for the time being to buy two more battery backups from the eBay seller here in Jacksonville Florida maybe next month I might have the money to buy a couple more of them
