    Wiring a PC cooling fan into a plasma TV

    Hi folks,
    I have a rescued LG 42PC3D that had died from the (commonly failing) Z sustain board. I've been told that wiring in PC fans to cool the heatsinks on the Z and Y sustain boards can make these components last much longer.

    Where do I splice these in? Does a lower volted pin mean quieter (less rpms) operation? What's optimal?

      Find 12v or less on one of the wires coming from the power supply section (use a multimeter to check voltages). Attach fan to that voltage wire and ground.
      Or find some higher voltage (up to 24-30v) and use a linear regulator to get 9-12v for the fans. 7809 or 7812 or 1117-9 / 1117-12 springs to mind.

          The fans should be connected to the switched (12V is turn on when TV is turn on, and it goes off when TV is turn off) 12V power source that can handle extra load.

              There are 3 12V pins coming off the power board. The first 1 slowly returns to 0V after being turned off. The second returns to 0 much quicker. The third instantly drops to 0. How do I know which can handle the extra load? When I wire this, I'm going to connect the ground to chassis, right? Also, wouldn't using a lead with lower voltage make for a quieter fan? I don't think I need too much air moving across the heatsinks.

                      Ok, I ended up splicing it into a 6V line. On the main/signal board it's labelled 6+ so I assume it can handle a little more. (wrong?) It was too loud on the 12V pins.

                          6+ means 6v positive line. you know what i did! i got a PC smart search protector and a PC fan 12v with a 12vdc power sup and connected the tv and fan power sup to the smart search protector and every time i turn on tv it turns the fan on too, you can get any fan on it and not to worry about over loading the tv.

                              I'm wondering if anybody out there has much knowledge of Samsung Bremen motherboards.
                              I've got a Samsung R530 which is about 10 years old, over the last 12 months it developed a worsening problem where when asked to do much work it would shut itself down. I had a good idea this was due to overheating which was confirmed by a temperature monitor programme which showed little balls of fire next to the various internal temperature readings. I could also prevent it shutting down if I placed a huge fan running at full speed in front of its air intake!

                              LG 50PJ350 plasma blowing Y-Sustain board

                              Hi, I was wondering if there's anyone here with experience on the LG50PJ350 plasma or similar models? When it came in, it had 7 shorted mosfet outputs on the Y-sustain board, Q02, 04,11, 22, 24, 26, and 28 were all dead shorted. I replaced them with the exact same type, checked their surrounding area for other open and shorted components and didn't see any further problems. But as soon as I hit the power button on the remote, I had a loud Pop! and Q22, 24, 26, and 28 are shorted out again. The other 3 seem to have survived. Someone on another forum had suggested the possibility of a shorted panel....

                              I hope my computer does not randomly reboot while typing this. My main system is the AsRock 970A-G/3.1 motherboard with the AMD 8150 chip. I am experiencing FREQUENT and RANDOM reboots once the system is used for a couple of hours (sometimes it reboots before I even get to the Win7/Linux Mint dual-boot screen). The problem MIGHT be the DRAM controller chip (I recently upgraded to the maximum 64 GB RAM). It also might be the VRM chips. I am using a typical aftermarket CPU cooler, which does NOT blow air DOWN onto the VRM heat sink.

                              Hello,
                              I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
                              Opened TV cover & observed foll
                              a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
                              b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
                              c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.
                              How to confirm Y -Buffer board...

                              Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks

                              Hi,
                              anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
                              It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
                              I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
                              I checked that board for any obvious faults...
