    part identification

can any one tell me if this is a fuse or a fusible resistor?,on my thread in tv section im repairing a lg19lu4010 lcd tv,everything is testing ok,just not sure on this part,on the board its marked "R111".but this part looks like a pico fuse??

on continuity on my fluke 87v it reads open (OL)

on resistance it measures (autoranging) 10.50 KOHM

i hope the pics are good enough for you to see,i used a jewlers loupe and my camera phone.

this part is inbetween the +of the bridge and the b+ of the smps transformer

yes you do see the b+ marking on lcd tv power supplys and not just crt !(read a simular thread on here about the b+ not being on lcd psu's)
fixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

That's a 2A fuse. Littelfuse called that a Pico Fuse, though that particular may have been manufactured by Otto Heil (a European company).

so would the "H" marking be a time delay fuse?it has confused me beacause the board legend said it was "R111"

do these fuses when blown give a high resistance reading then, rather than a normal fuse showing open and no resistance reading?

          Re: part identification

The 'H' is more likely to be the company icon. The resistance me be due the carbon track inside when the fuse link blown open.
I have seen 3A fuse made by Belfuse that has almost 10 Ohms reading which should be less than 1 Ohm. I use PICO II fuse by Littilefuse for this kind of through hole fuse type. There should be fuse replacement warning printing on the board that will give the current rating, type, and voltage.
I would inspect components after the fuse to see if it has any shorted components.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

brilliant budm, thats where my confusion was,the board marking said it was R111,yet the part said "2a" ,it looked like a pico fuse, marked as a fuse (on its self).i hate those little things they chuck in to confuse grrr !and not having a sch is frustrating too.

@retiredcaps,il try my best with a couple of pics of the board camera not great though.

the problem at its origin,a child banged the back of this set,the solder side of the psu managed to push itself against the rear of the metal lcd panel and caused a short at 2 points, there was no protection on the solder side to prevent this, very poor design as there is only about 5mm between the two!

2 black marks on the panel itself, the shorts happend on the -of the bridge to the +of the bridge, this of course took out the T3.15A main fuse and the "R111",the bridge test is fine and most surrounding components are fine too.in the primary side.

pfc is fine also,im getting 300+ volts at the filter cap, just no output voltages, need to test a few more components in the secondary, will get these pics up shortly.

                  Re: part identification

ok problem fixed,lg19lu4010,dead,no standby,no lights,no output voltages on psu

for anyone fixing this set replace regulator "strw6252"a 6 pin device, check vcc to ground, pin 4 and 5 should read open, mine was shorted.

also replace "r111" it is marked as a resistor but it is wrong, replace with a 2amp time delay pico fuse, this one goes open circuit due to str6252 vcc and ground going short.

                  tv up and running

can this be put in the tv section by any chance?

                    Re: part identification

Multimeter, the "H" is insode an "O", or appears to be, hence my guess that the manufacturer is Otto Heil, which does manufacture fuses. That reference designator is confusing.

                      Re: part identification

They may have used the fusible resistor (<1 Ohm) at the beginning, then it got changed to a fuse instead in the later version of the PCBA.
