Kiddie smoke alarm (120v with 9v battery backup) experienced 180v power surge (Newfoundland Power company).
          by Bubbsy 2002
Hi to all, I was diagnosing 2 smoke detectors that experienced power surge. I opened one up and found a weird fuse/resistor, which now has open circuit. I can't find this part.
Forgot to mention they both light up and I believe the test function works, but when I put smoke to them no alarm!

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

          Thanks,...

Not sure if this is the best section, so feel free to move it. I'm tasked to get some "safety device" in case something goes wrong to insure a dry sauna does not burn again. This time the wall with stove on it has been covered with mineral insulation material as well as linings. (Harvia states their stove can be mounted directly on wooden walls! get that! ).

Idiots wired extra (UTP, get that second time ) cable to the sauna ceiling. Is there ANY smoke detector which could survive on the ceiling with up to 100 (120?) °C there, or just all those house toys...

          Samsung 245B PLUS - BN44-00195A - bang and smoke - solved - tips
          by cnti
          Hi.
BacCaps forum is awesome - thank YOU ALL for sharing knowledge!

This is about DONG YANG PSU BN44-00195A failiure in Samsung 245BPLUS. It started with bang and smoke from the back of LCD. Downloaded diagram BM44-00192A - a bit different but I will use all parts names from this diagram [and real PSU].
BIG CAP CP801 had 315V, on standby pin 5,2V. After shorting S_B ON (through 3,3k ohm resistor) 24V and 5,3V were missing, on CP801 was 312V.

          RM801 [real PSU: RM801 - 0,22 ohm 1W] - FAIL
          burned, measured 10M ohm.

          QM801 [real PSU:...

Allen & Heath Xone:92 (DJ mixer) no output on main out & magic smoke
          by jaifraic
          Hello,

I have a DJ mixer here, an Xone:92 by Allen & Heath.

When I turned it on, only magic smoke came out, so I turned it off again.
An optical troubleshooting has brought me quite fast to the
source of the smoke: two resistors look disproportionately black (see first pic)

Those are R73 and R74 on the master PCB. See second pic for the corresponding page of the service manual.
          Behind those resistors are five OP-Amps (U3, U4, U5, U6 and U9).

My thought is that one (or more) of those is defective. I've measured...
