Those are both general purpose caps.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Can I replace them with low esr caps like FR, FM, HM, HE? Since I already have these on hand.

Be more specific... What part of the PSU? If it's around a VRM, then no, I would not recommend mixing caps with varying ESR.
            FR, FM, HM, HE
ESR, lowest to highest: HM, FM/FR, HE

They used GP caps in THAT!!!!!!!

                .
Considering the original are GP - something like LXZ, FC, PW are good enough.
With that many caps I'd just do an order and save the better caps.

Will what you have on-hand at least work?
                ~probably~
There is such a thing as too little ESR but I haven't seen issues with a screen yet.

I'm going to recap the inverter while I'm at it.

But I have 470uf 100v SK on the input near the power cable coming from the PSU and 2x 220uf 100v SL on the outbound before the CCFL transformers.

                  Should I replace them?

IIRC, Nichicon CA, CS and CY series are high quality, long life in inverter use.

Always use low ESR caps in PSUs, even if they were not low ESR to begin with.

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                        by Paxman_Swede
                        Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

It's feeling like this board has a case of badcaps, instability and reboots - and not wanting to necro a a very old thread, it seems the 680uF 4V are highly suspect.
I don't really want to blanket recap everything, but maybe the others around that area could do with being changed?

Equipment: I have a temperature controlled soldering station, read the bit where it says set to 400F, don't think I would have gone that high without reading that.
Spring plunger solder sucker, and some desolder braid... and a bit of good old leaded 60/40.

Replacement for the Siemens Bakelite caps in an early 1980s SMPS
                        by rewease
                        Hi everyone,

There actually was a time when early SMPS and late bakelite housed electrolytic caps coexisted in high end industrial gear. A friend of mine just got himself a CNC milling machine form that time with its first set of now 41 year old caps still installed in the PSU... and it's malfunctioning.

Two of the caps have already leaked slightly onto the board. I have not desoldered or measured any so far but they should qualify for replacement.

Now I'm wondering what to put in there as a replacement. First idea was state of the art low-ESR Nippon KY,...
