    Another cfl popped

    heh, another cfl went bang.

Resistors burnt, capacitors blown, diodes shorted, and the transistors split in two. Lots of damage in this one. Its hard to tell cause of the glare, but the big 'lytic is bulged and almost exploded.

Funny thing is, the actual tube itself is fine (each filament measures about 3 ohms).

    What brand?
I've had some Philips Marathon CFLs for about 6 years, no issues at all
36 Monitors, 3 TVs, 4 Laptops, 1 motherboard, 1 Printer, 1 iMac, 2 hard drive docks and one IP Phone repaired so far....

Probably thermal runaway. Was it in an enclosed fixture?

Some CFLs are marked "Not recommended for enclosed fixtures".
LED globes would not have this issue with certain fixtures.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.
