Re: What resistor is this?
violet, green, silver, gold, = 0.75 ohm 5% tollerance
I am from UK, but your radioshack is like our maplins from what I have read on the forum, (not much good) but I guess you would get it there
have you tested other components out?
another failed component possibily caused that failureComment

Re: What resistor is this?
I sincerely doubt it's a 0.75 ohm resistor. It's more likely to be red, green, orange or yellow which is 25 x 1k/10k = 25kOhm or 250kOhm, with a +/- 5% tolerance. Look up at the picture, ignore the third column of colors - your bars are 1st digit , 2nd digit, multiplier and tolerance.
If you still have doubts, I suggest looking up a resistor with the same color combination on the board , desolder it and go to Radioshack with both. If you can't find similar one just go with the burnt one - maybe it's still good.
They should have there a multimeter that can test the resistance and tell you the exact value.
Or just ask for 25 kOhm, 250 kOhm and whatever else you think it may be, they're a few cents each. Then match the color bars.Comment

Re: What resistor is this?
V,
Just for the record, Radio Shack is not exactly useful for parts like this.
Ten ohms, sure, one ohm, not too likely.
Fractional ohm, most consumer meters can't read it with any degree of luck.
In our business sometimes you have to break down and actually buy the correct part from a supply dealer. Or you can piss away hours trying to cludge up something that half works.
Boils down to how much your time is worth to you.
Dollars or hours.
Much luck.

Re: What resistor is this?
heh that resistor is shot. i bought 100 of them off ebay for 5$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_500wt_1413
pretty good deal considering the main companys want 7-9$ just for shipping aloneComment

Re: What resistor is this?
Quite possibly, or you read the colour code wrong.
If you're sure the colour code was right (If you're having doubts, read the thing outside on a sunny day) then it could well be something else is shorted\faulty and is making the resistor blow."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

by mikey5791Hi to all forum members,
Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.
Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor... -
by chth96I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out... -
by unimatrix93Dear community, I want to increase the lifespan of my backlight led in my TV by decreasing the current.
However I need some help identifying the resistor I need to replace to achieve this.
Thank you!

I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short⦠that's not the direction they fail⦠or so I thought.
I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors... -
