    Identifying a 3-legged device

    Hi All,

I have a small Sony CD player (CMT-X3CD) where the PSU board has died but i'm having trouble identifining a fried 3 legged component labled as Q501 on the schematic. The marking on the device itself is terrible and all I can decifer is:
    25216
    SMK

Can anyone suggest what it can be replaced with?

I've attached the service manual and the PSU board can be found on page 36/7.

    Many thanks.

      2SK216 probably won't do.

Schematics is implying a 4N65 unit. However usually mosfets don't die on their own, probably other stuff in the circuit that killed it.

The Sony HCD-ECL5 uses a similar power supply and Q501 is a 12N65

I replaced 2 caps on the primary side CD501&2 (22uF/400V). The ESR was very high on both. There was a flashover type skidmark on the solder side around the R5032 area. Although it looked ugly after a clean all the resistors and tracks measured OK.
