    what is this diode?

I think it is a zener? The lettering on it is as follows: ZC 332F. It is shorted in both directions.

It came out of an Emerson EWC1302 tv/vcr combo. My dad uses it at work and dropped it slightly when moving it. The tube is ok and everything on the board looks good, no cracks etc. But the set will not power on, only whine when plugged in. I started probing around looking for shorts and bad caps. I found one cap that showed a short, the diode next to it showed a short also. I removed each individually and checked for shorts, none were apparent so I put them back in. I then probed around until I found this guy that was a apparently causing the short. I took it out and verified that it was shorted. The components mentioned above no longer show a short. So I looks like this may be the culprit. Could jostling it it cause a failure if it was borderline to begin with?

Also, I am not sure if this is a problem but the main IC(marked K2662) in the power supply section shows continuity from the right side pin to the tab/heatsink.

    Re: what is this diode?

Well I think I almost answered my own question. It looks like a 33 volt zener. I dug up some usenet postings on this set and found some more info. Next problems is that it looks like the HOT is shorted also. It is a TT2138. Does anyone know if there is a a compatible IC still available?

      Re: what is this diode?

It crosses to an NTE2640 but only use universal replacements as a last resort when the original part number can't be found.

Newark, Mouser, and MCM have the NTE part in stock.

      Here's the NTE datasheet:

      https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...cf11322f47.pdf

In this case I did have a look and it seems like due to the availability of the original universal is the only option. Ironically enough B&D Electronics didn't have the original part in stock recommended a replacement and that part was also out of stock. That alone leads me to believe your chances of finding this part through regular channels is slim.

The few rare times I've used NTE HOTs due to availability problems they have functioned just fine so go that route.

Also next time you need to cross a part go to this page:

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the parts from mouser.

iMac power supply short-circuit diode to ground
          by pcardoso73
          Hi,
I have an iMac with the power supply reference: ADP-200DFB.

This power supply is not working and when trying to debug the problem with a multimeter, I found what I thought to be a short circuited diode (the short-circuit is to ground).

With the continuity test it beeps both ways, so doesn't block current flow at all then reverse biased. But after removing the diode the beep continues and the diode seems healthy. It seems to exist a real short-circuit.

As I have another ADP-200DFB power supply (faulty one as well), I have checked the same...

Extreme High Current & Low Voltage Short Killer ??
          by DynaxSC
          Hi Folks

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.

I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...

Testing for short circuit in diode mode
          by Askic
          Hello electronics experts,

On a few occasions I notice experienced technicians inspect for short circuit in diode mode on multimeter. This is OK and in some way equivalent to resistance mode, but more specifically I noticed that they put red probe on ground and black probe (connected to COM input on multimeter) is placed on the rail or pin.
I wonder why is that. Why not place black probe of multimeter on the ground and red probe on the rail which is tested for short?

Can you clarify this? When I test if something is short I use diode mode First and then double check...

MacBook Pro 14" A2442 Short on PPBUS_AON but no short present when injecting voltage!
          by Stephen
I check PPBUS_AON and there is a short present on the line, the computer shows a short when testing for short to ground, so when I inject voltage into the line, I get 0AMPS so no short is showing up. I have replaced a blown cap on this board that exploded and tested for the short and it is now removed. Any suggestions? I tested voltage at the line when the fuses are connected and I am getting 1.2 Volts at the line.

Help with Delta AP-396AM TV power supply
          by ravve
My Sony 85 inch TV from 2019 stopped working. Troubleshooted the error to the Power supply board, where the 3,3V standby voltage is completely missing.

I am used to pinball repairs but never got into repairing power supplies.
I would really love to fix this instead of bying a new board, but need some guidance.

          The power boad is a DELTA AP-P396AM GL93, (1-001-394-11).
Any schematics would be great but I can't find any.

What's done so far, with board removed from TV:
          Main fuse OK.
Voltage over power cord connection (incoming)...
