    I also changed the aop, from a mcp6041 to a ad8628
the mcp had too much voltage offset, and I losed a lot of low mΩ resolution with it
the ad8628 is perfect with 1µV offset.

not sure you also have the aop in your drawers ?

i didnt know sot23-6 fited on those soic boards.
that's good because i have a load of those adapters.

infact other than the adc i have it all.
    arduino's, blue-pills, esp8266's, oleds - i keep lots of such stuff!

the shorty original is open sourced, so I really can't make mine a closed design.
by the way, there is nothing complicated on this design, just add a display and a better adc on a shorty.
I even reused the same protoboard and box where my original shorty was.
I only was the first it seems to have this idea and realize it in real.

I will publish the design on my web site in a few days, the pcb will come later after testing it.

@stj : the adc is on a 8 pins protoboard, but it is a 6 pins, the last two pins are not connected on the adapter sot23-6 to 8pdip.

just noticed, your prototype has an 8pin adc, but the part number your using is mostly just sold as 6pin sot23 package.

not a problem, but keep that in mind if your going to design pcb's

it is based on an open source design - it would be a bit wrong to close it.

on connectors - did i say i hate din plugs?
so for 4pins i would use mini-XLR connectors.

Thought on that right after posting my comment
My advice, if any good, to is to hide something important and only release to forum registered members.
I'm sure anyone would come up with a better idea if @kripton2035 is up to it

you must have 4-wires probe or you won't get the reading stability like on the video.

share your schematic and code - dont take too long on board layouts - everybody will probably make changes anyway.
like ditching the arduino and putting an mcu on the main board.

the microcontroller is an arduino nano
the ADC is an mcp3421 in 16 bits mode, the 18bits being too slow at 3 samples/sec

I first used the avr adc (at 10 bits) and it was enough with the shorty initial amplification (x200)
then I tried the 18b adc and lowered the amplification for better range to 27x
the video use the 18b adc in 16b mode (and no pga gain)
it can read 0.1mΩ to around 2.5Ω

I did one showed here (http://kripton2035.free.fr/Projects/proj-shorty.html) and was pleased with its performances, but it lack a display.

    fast and easy.

I'm cleaning the schematic and sources, and will share it when it's ready.
    What micro controller did you

Could you please post the code that you used for this project

    Thanks for posting this

interesting, what is the avr adc resolution, 12bit?

Help me find the short circuit on this WORKING Nvidia GTX1650
    by aaronkatrini
    Hi all,

Recently picked up this GTX1650 at a local flea market for a low price and wanted to use it on my secondary PC. I first tested the card and saw the fan spin for a split second and then nothing. Immediately I thought of a short circuit. Disassembled and found a shorted SMD capacitor, injected voltage into it (1V/4A) and two Mosfets got hot immediately (QN3103 & QN3107). Desoldered these Mosfets and the card turned back to life.

Bought replacements from Aliexpress and replaced them afterwards. Tried the card but still the saw the fan spin for a split second...

MSI GS73 (MS-16K61) : help me find short (got thermal cam)
    by snow_sg1
    Hi,

First : I've got a SMD rework station, thermal camera and good soldering station

This is my first "short" motherboard repair, this laptop was 25€ so no loss, it just for learning. I want to learn how to fixed board because I want this to become my job.

I've been fixing electronics for 15+ years, but mostly VCR and camcorder.

So, I checked power adapter pin to ground, no short, then I plugged the charger in, light on charger blink indicating short.

PQ19 mosfet got HOT straight away (viewed on thermal cam). Checked,...

PCB Layer to layer short on a low voltage power plane - how to find it?
    by Prott
    Hello!
Recently I have a problem finding a dead short (as far as my cheap multimeter is concerned) on a multilayered (12 layer) PCB. It is caused due to mechanical stress (warping the board and, I assume, cracking inner layers). Injecting voltage of 0.9 V (operational voltage of that part of the circuit) and drawing 0.5 W doesn't cause any visible hotspot on a thermal camera.

Does anybody have any tips & tricks in order to locate the short more or less precisely? The area has a lot of powerplanes, so it's both blessing and a curse.

Silly idea no. 1: Can I...

Beginner question. Did I find a short?? HP dax31mb1aa0 REV A motherboard
    by Mess

Hi beginner here, so I'm not sure of I've done this right 😅 trying to diagnose my laptop's motherboard (dax31mb1aa0 rev a). I don't quite know how to read the schematic, so I'm attaching the pictures of the motherboard and the measurements.

I was attempting to measure resistance to GND on inductors. I disconnected motherboard and used "continuity testing" setting on my multimeter. I put black probe to Ground & red probe on an inductor. Did I measure this right? Am I correct to think that 0.3 ohm measurement indicates a short circuit? Thank you for your help!...
