there are 2 windows drivers to install.
    1: a virtual comport
2: a virtual parallel port and i²c driver

    then there are 2 softwares.
    1: the memory programmer
    2: the AVR microcontroller programmer

now as far as the memory programmer goes, the versions upto 1.18 just work
versions from 1.20 onwards need to be registered.

and i have 1.18 and 1.29 if anybody needs them.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

btw, the key to finding this stuff is simply to use a chinese search engine - it's like turning on the lights in a dark room!
sir can i have a copy of your version 1.29? thanks

    Nevermind, it was my fault...

I was laying the chip on the pads meant for 25 serial chips...

Can someone please confirm that their device can read/write to 24 EEPROM chips (any 24Cxx chip)?

I've tried several different chips now, none have worked. I'm beginning to suspect my device or the software.

to register it, you pay the author - insructions are in the readme.
or, try the solutions posted a few posts back

Could you direct me towards where I can find version 1.29 please.
What is necessary to register it?

AFAICT you can use the CH341a to program the W25Q64FV, setting manually the device to the W25Q64BV.
They are fully identical except for the QPI support on the later one.
Since they both support standard, dual and quad SPI - the protocol/interface CH341a uses to program this devices - will therefore work.

(Not sure what bug was fixed with W25Q64FV in v1.30 thought)

I use a Bus Pirate, which only requires the use of a "basic" RS-232 (serial port) terminal program for communication; alternatively, other programs such as Python scripts can automate functions (such as reading/writing the EDID on the DDC bus on a particular HDMI input).
