You get what you pay for... cheap design and cheap software... doesn't surprise me.

by repair-itI am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

by CapSnap123I'm getting frustrated troubleshooting a paper shredder. The way the shredder normally works is when you turn the power on, nothing happens until you insert a piece of paper. There is an IR shredder in the shredder and inserting the paper breaks the beam and starts the shredder motor. But now the motor runs constantly, even when no paper is inserted. I've replaced the photodiode and the IR emitter. Also the relay makes a nice clicking sound so I assume it is working too. I don't know what else to check. Here's a photo of the circuit board. The red and black wires marked IR - go to the...

I DIDN'T REALISE MY SMALLEST SOLDERING TIP COULD JUST FIT BETWEEN THESE COMPONENTS.
I MANAGED TO REMOVE THEM WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE BOARD AND I HAVE MY INTENDED END RESULT.
On a Possio PM70 portable fax machine which has a scanner that detects when you push a piece of paper into the scanner slot.
It is these two small (3mm long) components that detect the paper and start the scanner feed motor which pulls the paper into the scanner.
(These are on the circuit board for the keypad and not the main board)

by EasyGoing1I have a 40 volt AC transformer that I put a bridge rectifier on, and I wanted to see the input signal and the output signal on the same screen on my scope, so I set one channel up with the test lead on one side of the input and the ground lead on the other side of the input, then I used another channel on the scope and clipped the test lead on the positive side of the output then the ground on the negative side of the output.
When I connected the transformer to power, the wire that was connected between the ground lead on the second channel and the negative side of the bridge rectifier... - Loading...
