    Samsung UN46EH6000 LED ERROR Codes

I have a nice UN46EH6000 that I have tried 3 different power boards on. All three produce the same response.

When plugged in, I hear the SAMSUNG tones, but absolutely no light on the screen at all..

On the power button (a PS3 style thumb button) a red LED blinks 6 times..

I was going to tear down the unit to the bare bulbs and see if the problem lies there but before I do, I wanted to see if those Error Code Blinks mean anything else.. GOOGLE was no help..

Also, on the cable between the power board and the video board, there is a trace that had been factory cut...

    Any hints would be appreciated...

They mean nothing. It is not an error code.

Most likely open circuit LED strip, or short circuit LED to chassis.

That will cause a Samsung to cycle the power or fail to boot.

    I don't think that's a factory cut.......

Yea, that turned out to be the problem with a previously mentioned Westinghouse I worked on..

      OK, disassembly it is...

Well, it WAS until I spliced it to see if that was my problem..

Yea, probably not the smartest move, I realize...

      Thanx for the response...

OK, got the unit disassembled down to the bare LEDs

Interesting arrangement.. Looks like a padded room I have been in once or twice.

I re-seated the connector to the LEDs and want to hook up the power board to see if I get light..

Is it wise to hook up just the power board without the video or TCON boards??

Yes, you can power up the TV without the T-CON and the LCD panel attached.

            Thanx, budm...

Yea, I had to hook up the video board anyways to have the ON/OFF switch in play, so I went ahead..

Found something interesting. Hopefully the smoking gun...

Using a voltmeter I determined that there were no direct shorts and the connections were laid out as indicated in the attached Pic..

As the saying goes, "Curiouser and Curiouser..."

I took out all of the light strips shown in post #4... Powered up and still got the same result. 6 blinks on the power LED...

So, I tried something I probably should have done BEFORE I disassembled this unit down to bare tacks...

I pulled the connector (Post #7) that goes from the power board to the LED strips shown in post #6...

Plugged in and still the same 6 LED blinks..

Which leads me to believe that the short is NOT in the LED strips....

The only other possible culprit is the video board...

But that doesn't make much sense...

                Does it??

What DC Voltages do you get on the connector CNM803 pins when TV is OFF and when power switch is activated? There are label for each pin.

Also if you disconnect the CNM803 and then plug the TV into the outlet, do you get backlights?

                    6 blinks means nothing.

It is the normal Samsung power up routine. Every Samsung TV does the same. Anywhere from 4 to 10 blinks seems normal.

OK, I look at the picture myself:
Pin 6 = BL ON/OFF = 2.9V = OK, it should be <1V when TV is turned OFF.
Pin 14 = PWR ON/OFF = 3.2V = OK, it should be <1V when TV is turned OFF.
So the main board is sending out correct signal to turn on the power supply and the backlights circuits.
The problem is on the power supply board some where, the backlights should at least flash on for a second for the error detection circuit to detect any fault before going into shutdown.
What DC Voltage do you get at THE TWO LEGS of the main filter cap (82uf 450Vdc) when power switch is activated?
                            Pictures are provided by SHOPJIMMY.

I am not sure but it might be indicative of the problem.

I can't seem to turn the set off...

When I plug it in, I hear the Samsung Tones that indicates power up..

Looking at the INPUTS area, the red light is on in the OPTICAL AUDIO connector which I have always associated with the TV being ON...

Pushing the power button does nothing to change anything..

Totally disconnecting the Video Board (and, hence, the power button) produces the voltages I outlined above...

Also, this is the 3rd Power Board I have put in the unit...

The one that was initially in there..

One I had flying around my shop of unknown operability..

And the third one that's in there now that I had purchased from Shop Jimmy...

All gave me the same results...

Because it is most likely an open circuit LED in the panel. This is by far the most common fault with LED TVs and is making many of them really difficult to fix.

I don't really know how you'd go about fixing an O/C LED in something like an 70" panel... 46" sounds bad enough.

I thought about that.. That maybe one of the strips was bad.. So I took one out and tested..

                                      No luck..

Took another out and tested again..

                                      No luck...

And so on and so on until there was only one left...

I then put them back in, in reverse order and tested again after each install..

                                      No go..

What about the idea of buying a new strip that's (assumed) good?? And use it to test each strip connection??

Does the voltages in post #6 provide any clue??

EDIT: Actually, #6 just provides a continuity diagram..

                                        Would checking voltages help???
