    Sony KDL-46EX700 5 blinks

Hey all I have a Sony KDL-46EX700 and I'm getting 5 blinks from the standy-by led. It powers up with no video or backlights and then powers down after about 30 sec. The 3.3 standby voltage is there but I can't seem to measure the T-con voltages off the power board because it's not on long enough to get those voltages. Or should they be there right from power up? Not sure. A pencil was thrown at the panel and when it hit the panel went dark and then powered down. After that would not work again. The F101 fuse on the T-con board is fine and I didn't see an actual F1 fuse like I'm use to seeing on T-con boards.I did download that Sony training manual someone had posted on this site and it said 5 blinks LCD panel.. Any suggestions.

    Thanks
    paul

I would start by carefully inspecting the panel. It probably has a small crack where the pencil was thrown at it....

Yeah but I have had TV's with cracked panels and they worked. I will say I never had an LED with a cracked panel though.

Well I'm no expert by any means but have read a lot of times here that a cracked panel can cause the panel driving IC's to short out and that in turn throws an error code. Now you saying that when the pencil hit the screen it went dark and has this code now, makes me think the panel cracked.
Don't take my word for it 100% tho. But to me it would make sense.

When power swithc is activated, the voltage on the T-con FUSE should be there after few seconds when the Power supply is turn on by the PS_ON signal, then the main board will turn on the MOSFET that supplies the voltage to the T-CON fuse.

So budm not sure what you are saying. Let me clarify what I understand. When the big rocker switch on the side of the set is turned on that will send voltage to the TCON fuse correct? Then when the TV set is actually turned on and is not in standby the mosfet on the main board will then activate the TCON board. Doesn't the path of current enter at the fuse ? Not sure if you are familiar with these sets. The have a main power button and then a regular power button that is used to actually turn the set on. So Im not sure about what the mosfet is the starting. I'm still wondering though are you saying I should see all the voltages on the power board that go to the TCON board from the minute the set is turned on? Or am I still waiting for the CPU to say everything is ok now activate the TCON and get out of circuit protection mode.

              Re: Sony KDL-46EX700 5 blinks

The big rocker switch is the main switch, TV is still in the standby state, there should be another power switch (or when the Power switch on the remote) that will actually activate the power on sequence, main board will send out PS_ON (Power supply ON), the main board will also send the signal to turn on the MOSFET (it is used as a swtich) on the main board to supply the voltage to the T-CON board, T-CON board does not get any voltage when TV is in standby to save power. You should see the voltage on the T-CON fuse in a few seconds (can be up to 10 seconds, depends on the design) after power switch is activated. Some of the SONY TV will monitor the feedback signal from the T-CON board to tell the main board if the T-CON is not getting the power or there is problem.

Great , Yeah I already downloaded the Sony Training manual. That is were I got 5 blinks is a LCD panel issue. Ill check it out this weekend. On the power supply side of the connector going to the TCON I could never measure the +12 and -12 volts there . I wasn't sure If that was Sony still in some sort of circuit protection doing it's self diag. and waiting to say everything is ok . Like I said the TV is only on for about 30sec before it powers off. Not sure if that 12 v is suppose to be there right from the start. Thanks for the help post on Sat. nite what it looked like..

Yeah I've done all the TCON tests already that were in that other PDF. Nothing. Like I said there isn't even back lights. I'll measure that voltage though.

One thing you can try is to disconnect the LVDS cable to the T-CON board, it is the cable between the Main board and the T-CON board, and see if the error code will change. BTW, did you download the service manual this TV chassis? What is the chassis number?

I didn't download the service manual. Is there one on this site? I didn't get a chance to look at the set on Sat. nite. My supervisor said don't worry about the set we aren't really going to be using it any longer. I'm still gonna work on it but I have a project that is going into full swing at the moment so I have to put the set on the back burner. I did disconnect that cable when I was first troubleshooting it. Every cable I would disconnect made the set go down sooner ie... instead of 30 sec. it would be 10 sec. One time I got a 2 blink error and another 3 blink error . Sorry don't remember which cable those errors were associated with. I'm gonna try and sneak some time on this set here and there for the time being. We'll see. I'd like to get that manual though.

Did you remove the t-con board and suppy It from 12V external DC power source? Then you would probably find theres something faulty on it
